Personally I think anything over 75 is too fast, but I’m older and supposedly wiser now.

Yep, that’s usually what happens. 85=100+

It was impossible, I was much younger and impatient back then. After running up to 100, it felt like you were idling along at 55.

Yep it's big. Even at that speed it take 4+ hours in any direction for me, where I live, to get to the next state, in any direction.

I remember shooting through New Mexico at 70mph back in 1982, I just knew I was going to jail if they caught me

I came back from the no speed limit autobahn to 55; lets just say that it severely tried my patience!

I spent a couple years in New Mexico around then. Had a judge tell me the only thing you’d go to jail for in that state was murder. It was still the Wild West.

I remember when the speed limit in Montana was "reasonable and prudent" during the day and 65mph at night. the fastest in the other states was 70 including Texas at that time.

I did open up my new truck in Montana on that trip to 110mph which was fun and legal

I've seen way too many times what happens to the human body involved in a collision at 80+ MPH. It's not pretty.

Modern properly maintained vehicles with good tires can safely
maintain a high speed if the driver isn't diddling with their cell
phone or trying to eat their egg mcmuffin or shave in the rear view
or apply makeup or fix their hair, etc.
As posted ^ ^ ^ it's done in parts of europe every day

Or watching a movie on a portable DVD player. I saw a guy doing this trying to get on 635 at Town East. When I looked over saw the DVD playing and facing him I slowed down and let him go on.

Road quality is much more suitable to higher speeds. Driver training standards are much better. Drivers also follow rules much better, especially lane discipline.

I’ve driven sustained speeds 100 to 110 mph and had people blow past me in the left lane. Driving there at 100 feels as stable as 70 here on the interstate. You also don’t have to worry about some jack wagon pulling into your lane doing 60.

To be determined

70 is my max. No hurry, no worry.
