Good evening all...

New place we just moved into has a bit of acreage with it and there is a fence line that is overgrown. The usual garbage trees/brush. Has created a pretty good wildlife funnel over the years. But with us now the new owners, we are doing to work to it and "poison ivy" is king in that area. It is almost on every tree, branch, fencepost, etc.

So, my question is this...if it was just a couple of vines, hit it with roundup and and be done with it....not in this case....

How can I get rid of massive amounts without killing off everything in the county? Yes, I have thought of napalm

Open to any ideas...grandkids will eventually have a playhouse/cabin nearby

I mix high strength vinegar, 2× normal dose of grass killer, dish soap and sometimes salt. Problem is it will kill all but larger trees. Usually takes 2 applications. Other then that I just cut it close to the ground with a weedeater blade.

Go to home depot and hire a couple guys with machetes.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Even if you find napalm, I wouldn’t do that if I were you.

I’m not a fan of ANY vines, especially itchy ones.

Crossbow. You can get it at Tractor Supply. It's a mixture of 24D and triclopyr. Triclopyr is the one doing the heavy lifting in this mix. 2fl oz per gallon and add a little diesel as your surfactant. Do not spray it on trees. Hammer down on the fence and post. When you get to the trees find the stem(s) coming out of the ground and paint brush the stems with it. The paint brush part is a PITA but works.

I have a buddy that was weeding in poison ivy, thought he was not allergic, took a pee, and a few days later he thought his girlfriend had given him a disease. It is one of the worst stories I have ever heard.

It's probably their favorite thing to eat.

If you can get some Grazon P+D (licensed product) put it in the pump can, walk and spray. After is has died, try to cut the vines at the ground level. It can be painstaking, but it'll fix it.

Buy some brush killer at your favorite box store or online.
Follow directions.
Pump up sprayer.
It will all die.

Following this...We have an island in our pond at the ranch, and we built a bridge over to it. Come to find out, it is absolutely covered in poison ivy. I will tell you that burning it (yes, I know, you have to stay away from the smoke when doing this) absolutely does not work. We tossed a couple of maltov cocktails on the island two years ago and burned it down to dirt. The next spring it was covered in poison ivy again. we still can't set foot on the island.

When I know I've gotten it on me, cold water and Dawn.

Dawn is good for a whole lot of things. I have it in the kitchen, the bathroom and in the shop. There's been times I kept a small bottle in my truck toolbox.

I deal in this crap on a daily basis and it seems the more I get it the less I’m reactive to it but after tens of thousands of dollars in shots and doctors visits it’s about time. I’ve had it on every inch of my body and inside my lungs and throat and had my eyes swelled shut more times than I can count. The best coarse of action is to shower as soon as you get home and the best way to remove it is burn the ten acres around it while your at home watching reruns of Scooby Do letting a hired hand deal with it.

If your allergic to it your simply going to get it but cedar trees are the absolute worst way to get it, at least for me it is. I run that crap over while grinning and shower right afterwards. It’s like washing off a night of partying with a fat chick, you clean up afterwards and pray for the best but expect the worst rofl

Poison ivy definitely affects some worse then others. 4 of us sat in some one night partying at Lake Lewisville. One dude was picking berries and throwing them at the rest of us. 2 almost ended up in the hospital and the other had it pretty bad. I had none and I was sitting in the middle. I am glad we didn't have fire ants back then. Now I will have a reaction on inside of my arms. Sensitivity can change so if you were once not allergic to it that might change.

Had a neighbor that burn a bunch of brush with poison ivy in it. His lungs actually got infected, and it dang near killed him.

There was a video a while back showing friction while washing with soap is a key to remove the oil that causes the problem. Don't remember where I saw it.
