I'm afraid this thread is going to end up costing me a lot of money. They're a great rifle with a look and feel like no other, that money won't be wasted. Kind of talking out my azz here but they hold their value as well as any other firearm I've seen other than old Colt's and Winchesters.

nice job, did this come from EBCO? My Ruger is custom & I had my gunsmith drill & tap the hole in the hangar when he did the barrel fitting. As others have mentioned, there is an adapter available that does the same thing but clamps on the hangar some how, without drilling anything. There is a book titled "Mr. Single Shot's Gunsmithing Idea Book" written by Frank De Haas that goes into detail on experiments accurizing falling block rifles, most specifically the no.1. I own & have gone through several Ruger #1, #2, & #3's. As was stated, out of the box accuracy can be luck of the draw. My personal opinion is that just about any poor shooting #1 or #3 can be tuned-up for excellent accuracy. There is much internet info available on this topic for some Googling. Just IMHO... there are shooters out there with #1's that are disgusted with poor accuracy & are anxious to sell their safe queen. A little bit of amateur or professional gunsmithing & you can have a fantastic hunting rifle at a fair price!

I have a half dozen of them and they are pretty much all going for double what I paid for them. The only one I'm not sure about is a 22-250 that was factory redone before I got it.

I had one in .270 that would stay around a 1.25 three shot group with factory. Never reloaded for .270 but I miss that rifle. It was handy.

Buddy of mine has a heavy barreled one in .22-250 that shoots pretty small groups. He won't sell it to me.

I wrote a post about what makes a firearm an heirloom firearm a while back. I have decided my father-in-law's No. 1 is just that for our family. It's a .25-06 stainless with laminate stock. She's a beauty and a for sure shooter. The boys always know it was Papaw's gun. A Ruger No 1 AH in 25-06 is my grail gun. Just HAD to upload a pic of her for grins.
