Surfing the web this evening trying to lookup a serial number off one of my rifles for a company no longer in business I ran across this link :

https://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,4643,7-123-1878_1591_3503_4654-45376--,00.html

I don’t quite know how to feel about this , I mean I get that Law Enforcement acquires a good number of registered and unregistered firearms over time but man 9 pages of weapons to burn…

I suppose If anybody in Texas has had a gun stolen and not recovered they could double check lists such as these , maybe a human error in logging the serial numbers could lead to a 1 in 10000 chance that a stolen rifle/pistol fall through the cracks.

Anyways , I wish there were someway to legally rehome weapons such as this for firearms that aren’t attached to criminal wrongdoing………

There is no such thing as gun registration in Texas.

They are destroyed because that's what the court order specifies. Some can be awarded to the agency, if they can show the need to the magistrate for the use, but it's an order for destruction otherwise.

I mean there is a list of firearms reported as stolen and who they belong to.

Wish they would keep the firearms and burn the thieves.

Registration is not a thing in most states.

In fact, if you buy a firearm from an FFL or an individual, and have it sent to a receiving FFL. Then you fill out a 4473 Form, and you either get background checked, or you skip it if you have an LTC. If you get checked, the ATF hears handgun, long gun, or other (other being receiver). They clear you, and it's done. That 4473 Form remains in that FFL's possession for 20 years. After 20 years the form will be burned, at least that's what I'm going to do. If for some reason the ATF were to take your form I am calling you to let you know.

I won't shed a tear over the Jennings, Bryce, Ravens, and other garbage guns. But Browning Hi Powers deserve better
