Anyone else getting close? Technically I could go out in a year and half but would be a huge cut in salary so I’ll likely hang in there for 3 more.

What’s you reason for staying or going? Every year my retirement salary goes up about 2% .

Well I don't plan on retiring anytime soon (Oil business is like the mafia, once in you can't get out) but I did decide to draw full Social security about a year ago and that has been a rather frustrating endeavor. 4 attempts to sign up on line with no success, multiple phone calls, hours on hold. Was finally told I had an appointment at the local office and they would send me the date in the next 20 days, that was over 60 days ago and still no response from the Social Security admin. A year later and I'm no closer than I was before I made the first call. The Covid thing has damn near shut down the SS administration, no local offices are open or their by appointment only, no walk ins and no local numbers. The only good thing is the longer they hold out the more they're going to pay.

It might be a good thing you haven't started drawing SS if you plan on still working. When you draw it and still work you will end up paying taxes on part or all of your SS. I retired at 62. After I retired I could make less than $1200 a month. If I made more SS would take $1 for every $2 I made. After age 66 I could make all I wanted but the end of the year I had to pay taxes on a % of my SS. SS will not withhold taxes so that money comes out of pocket. Now I'm fully retired and don't have to worry about all that.

I'm close... could leave now but need to find someone we trust to set up an annuity with our savings... The wife will be 65 in July, and will have to go on Medicare (and Tricare for life), so that is my current planned out... I'll have Tricare Prime for medical until I hit 65 a year later.

If y'all know someone in the investment biz that's good, feel free to offer suggestions.

Have not worked in this century. Retired on 31Dec 1999. Yeah, I'm old. Life is good.

Could check out tomorrow but a lot of my retired friends are bored and have nothing to do.

I can't do that so I'm hangin' in for a while.

I work harder now that I am retired than when I actually had a paying job.

I went into semi retirement in June, I go out in the field maybe 1 or 2 days per week. I have made 3 trips to Cancun and starting to get burned out on traveling to Mexico.

Once Covid lets up and Philippines opens up for tourism, I will be in full retirement, I suspect it will be next summer before that happens

I decided to retire while I could still get around good, could easily travel, and didn't want to wait till I got in my mid 60's and run out of time of life

I’m close. Maybe 6 months. But then will look for another job, I know I can’t do nothing.

Some people have no trouble adjusting to retirement. But I know many who have started working again.

Yes, I promised kids and wife I will retire fully or atleast fulltime in 6.5 years. With that said I don’t think I’ll be able to sit still.

I'm eligible now but I'm not financially ready for retirement. As stressful and frustrating as my job can be, I'm also not ready to walk away from it. I'm looking at about 4 1/2 years, but nothing carved in stone yet.

I waited till I was 68. Haven't regretted it for 4 years. Do what I want when I want.

I'm well past full retirement age. I knew I'd have to pay full tax but even with that's it's a nice chunk of change.

When I die. Didn’t plan well enough as a young man.

I’ve been very fortunate the last 15 yrs in business for myself. Although I joke I wake up and wipe my [censored] with a couple $100 bills every day you are in business for yourself.

Still too many bills and too much to spend on. Maybe if the good Lord blesses me with another 15. That would put me at age 70, so yea maybe then.

Went to 4 day weeks in July. Maybe 3 days a week starting in January. My Co. offers an “off ramp” for tenured employees. Full benefits, but of course, less pay. 62 next month. If the downsized me now and gave me typical severance, I would thank them. LOL

Eligible in 4.5 years, but the payout is much better if I go 4 beyond that.

I didn't have much trouble filing for SS. I was already in the "system" by having Medicare. It took a few calls, but it took about one month and my first payment was deposited this week.

I could have gotten a nickel more by waiting until December when I'm 66 and 2 months. But after a lot of number crunching it looked to me like I would be 81 before a that nickel caught up with me. I figured get it now before the system goes bust.

I'm not sure what my situation is. I'm semi-"retired"? I don't work much. Far from retirement age. I don't want to completely give up working since I really like it and don't want the void. And I have to keep one foot in the door so I don't lose "access". If I stop for too long it will be very difficult to get back in if it happens at all.
