Well now that's pretty cool!
.30-06 would've made it to the end.

That was only about half as long as was needed for the 338.

It would be cool to see that same test done but with various muzzle brakes on the same rifle each shot.

Never shot a 338 Lapua but I helped an guy sight in a 300 RUM once. Absolutely the worst beating I ever took from a rifle. I don't think he ever shot it again, I know I didn't.

It would be cool to see that same test done but with various muzzle brakes on the same rifle each shot. Go to YouTube and search for muzzle brake comparison. There are quite a few out there. I did that before I purchased a Little Bastard brake for my .338 Win Mag.

I saw on you tube. Ransom makes a long gun machine rest. I need one to take my crappy shooting out of the equation.

Excellent. Thanks for sharing.
IMO, the most loosely used words in the hunting community are "light recoil".

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

[quote=trigger time]It would be cool to see that same test done but with various muzzle brakes on the same rifle each shot. This is terminator muzzle brake video. He has a lot of muzzle brake comparison videos on YouTube. The terminator 3 or 4 will give that .338 a recoil like a .243.

I have shot dang near everything from a 17Rem up to a 458 Win Mag. The biggest beating I ever took was from a Ruger M77 in 338 Win Mag. I sold that gun here on the forum and noticed he sold it also within the last year.

.30-06 would've made it to the end. 30-06 is a pussycat tell my shoulder this. My .300 Win Mag kicks less than a buddy's TC Compass '06. There is about a pound difference in guns weight though

.30-06 would've made it to the end. 30-06 is a pussycat 59.0 gr of H-4350 under a 180 gr is no fun to shoot. I would rather shoot a .300 Win Mag, which is loaded with H-1000 or H-Retumbo. The slower burn powder is more of a shove. .30-06 is a Mike Tyson jab. Several people have asked me why a .30-06 is such a pop of recoil. That's my explanation.

Wasn't warm in that rifle.
Hodgdon's data, and all the books are "guidelines".
Hodgdon says a 6.5 Creedmoor loaded with H-4350 and a 140 gr, maximum is 40.0 gr. There's a whole lot of 6.5 Creedmoors out there loaded with 42.0 to 43.0 of H-4350 under a 140 gr.
O.A.L. is also something that is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. Only three things determine ammo length. Keeping the same measurement of bullet diameter, if bullet in the brass. Relationship to the lands. Magazine length.

I don’t know what to tell all y’all recoil shy folks. I’ve shot plenty of 308, 30-06, 300 mag, Ruger loads out of a 45-70, 375’s, 12 gauge slugs, etc and never felt like a 06 was that bad… but I don’t wear panties either.
Except in the encore rifle. That POS kicked no matter what it was chambered in.

As JCB said 300 RUM is about as far as I go. After 4-5 shots i'm starting to flinch pretty bad. A 230 Gr 30 cal bullet going 3000 ft per sec is killing on both ends

I fired that gun when I visited Saeed in Dubai in 2007. If you hold th gun correctly, it's not bad. You'll know you fired a true big bore, but you won't suffer any injuries.
