If so, which camera do you use ? I’m thinking of starting this season with a GoPro. Is their video quality good ?

I do from time to time mostly when I have my son with me. Great way to capture great memories. I use my Nikon p900.

Nope. I remember them in my mind and relive them that way. I have no interest in filming them for someone else to watch.

My hope is that when I’m long gone my son can watch the videos of me and him hunting together and show his kids and grandkids.

GoPro makes a great product, but it really isn't designed for distant shooting. Yes, you can zoom the GoPro image, but that is digital zoom, which means you lose resolution as you zoom. ST uses a Nikon P900 that costs about $1100, give or take, so a bit more pricey, but he gets good images at 200 yards, right?

For the same price or less than a GoPro, you might try something like this Panasonic with 50x optical zoom. It won't do what the P900 does, but will give you a much better result than a digitally zoomed GoPro image. You have to remember that GoPros are meant as action cams where the action is taking place right in front of the camera, such as with skiers, skateboarders, surfers, bikers, etc. Now, if you are hunting at 1-25 yards, a GoPro would be excellent, but chances are that you are not.

If you are weapon mounting, spend ~$700 and get a Sightmark Wraith 4k Max that will record video with audio and have a great day and low light image. Check out the evening coyote images at 570-850 yards...

I tried to video some of my hunts way back in 2003-2004. I bought a DSLR about that same time and really enjoyed taking stills instead of video. My computers have all been set up for photos and not for videos also. With both stills and videos I did not share them with many back then, just landowners or friends. Today it is about the same since THF is the only social media I use. So, I have stuck with stills instead. I have 10's of 1000's of still from most of my hunts over the past 17 yrs now, I still go through them from time to time to remember the past. Someday I may do something with some of them, if not then when I am gone someone can delete them all since they won't mean much to them.

Sappers video would be great without the audio but that is what really makes it special. It would be a real shame if you had not shared it and please keep sharing it every time a chance like this comes up.
I dont think I knew you used the p900. I have the p1000 and brag about it on here often. Someone mentioned $1100 for the 900 but my 1000 was $1000 and the 900 now is only about 700 I think. The 1000 does more but the 900 is way less bulky. Both offer stills or video.

You have to put your gun down and take movies ------- go pro is ok,,, but nothing like movies that were taken with a camera that someone is holding. The down side is ------------ I have really good movies, but I took them, hence I am not in any of them. You wouldnt be in a go pro movie either. I think my nikon camera was about $300.

The few times I've hunted overseas, the guy that had hired a videographer was always an insufferable, arrogant azz. Not to mention, that's an extra set of feet making noise on any stalk. For what it's worth, the young men hefting the camera all over always seemed to be very affable guys.

Wanting to be remembered is human. Thinking your grandchildren and great-grandchildren will relish watching a man they barely remember, or never met, hunt something is insanely self-centered and out of touch with reality.

Well, nobody said anything about descendants relishing watching, but that doesn't mean that there won't be interest in watch and learn about great grand pappy Sapper. There is a HUGE industry based on ancestry and literally hundreds of not thousands of geneological and ancestry organizations around the US where people are very interested in what their ancestors were doing and how they were doing it. Just because the information is available does not mean that it will be utilized, but you never know. Many counties in Texas have them as there are regional groups, and city and town groups.

If I had kids I might do the same thing. But my wife can't have children so I really have no reason to film any hunts. When I am gone, I am gone.

Creek, with all due respect, I feel completely different than you. I dont know if anyone would want to watch me do anything but I think that they would. I guess I feel that way because I would give anything to watch videos or just see pics of my Dad and Granddad when they hunted.

I recorded quite a few hunts years ago, it was cool then and I enjoyed it.

I just lost interest in recording hunts. Got to the point where I just wanted things to be private. I enjoy every second watching an animal that I'm about to kill, jacking with a camera started taking away from that. Just wasn't my thing, didn't feel right to me...but that's me.

If anyone wants to record hunts for their Children/Grandchildren then get after it! The more of us hunting, the better.

Record hunts, don't record hunts. As long as you are making memories with the ones that you love, that's all that matters.

I personally have never videoed my hunts. However, I have had several outfitters video my hunts. I personally think videoing the hunt detracts from the overall experience.

I wish I had video of my grandpa’s hunting and fishing. I have a few pics but that’s it. I’d also love to be able to show my son pics and videos from the old days. I also wish I had more pics and videos of my brother who died from cancer at 8 yrs old. He had the same passion for baseball as my son who will never meet him and would be awesome to show him videos of my brother playing the game he loves. If my son decides to throw the videos of us spending time in the trash or just put them in an attic whatever but if he wants to show his kids and grandkids some of the great memories he made with me I think that would be pretty neat.

Also the vast majority of people who hunt in other countries especially Africa is just a status thing. They just want to be able to say they did it which is very self centered and pointless.

Same here. I still routinely hunt with my grandpas 870 Wingmaster that he bought brand new in 1970. Would be really cool so see pics or video of him hunting with it.

I've used GoPro's in the helicopter but as others mentioned, they don't work great out to distance.

We recently re-watched some old video from the late 80's early 90's of my Dad's hunts in Africa, including his Lion hunt, in which the camera man dropped the camera when the Lion charged and high tailed it out of there. All you hear is cussing, shooting and growling. We had some stuff from our old deer lease too when I 8-12yrs old that was fun to watch.

I really need to get those digitized pretty quick, maybe a good Christmas present for him.

One of the best videos I've ever seen posted....the excitement is awesome and a special memory that will last forever.

I video almost every one of my hunts. I love taking back and showing my family and also some younger hunters. It is a great way to remember kills as well as showing age of deer.
I use a $200 camcorder and a $40 tripod.
