We might take does and maybe some management early, but no trophies (none) until general gun season. Just the way we roll. Three of us (out of eight) don't even start hunting until the 3rd week in November and from there, it is game on. Especially so when the that there first cold front pushes South and no matter what day of the week that takes place. Sure seems to work for us.

On my first lease of my own this year, so I suppose we'll have to see how the rest of the group generally pursues. I plan to take a doe during archery season. Hard for me to think about a buck right now. We've only got a couple potential shooters who seem to make the rounds to everybody's feeders based on the photos we share among our crew.

Crossing our fingers that some of the bucks on our more heavily pressured neighbors respond kindly and we see some new faces once gun blasts start going off in November.

Curious how any of y'all who've been on leases a long time would feel if the property 10-point showed up at a new guy's blind in November 6? smile

I'd feel jealous....then I'd congratulate the hell out of him, tell him what a great buck it was. No need turn jealousy in to resentment over an animal that belongs to no one, plus as long as you're paying the same lease fee as the other guys/gals your tenure on the lease matters not.

0619, I think that you are concerned about how things look with you being the new guy says some good things about you. Unless its in the rules, I wouldnt think you getting lucky would make any difference to the senior members. If everyone had been passing a particular buck for years and as soon as he came of age you happened to be the one that got him then I can see disappointment from the other guys. But if nothing about that is in the rules then it shouldnt matter. If you have concern, then I would ask whos in charge how he felt about your hypothetical scenario.

I usually have several nice bucks on my place in September but they disappear during archery. The bucks we generally harvest are during the peak of the rut around Thanksgiving . They are generally new to our place and are there for the resident doe population that remains quite stable. The ladies always bring them in and we are pleased to have a good number.

TX65 and freerange — thank you both for the perspectives! The crew is pretty great so far and I’d like to think I’d be as excited to see anybody else get a crack at the one from the photo. It’s my first lease so I’m just happy to have a place to get out to during the season. Countin down the days now! Appreciate your thoughts as always.

Yes, harvesting a great buck for your self is great. Seeing one of your friends, family is just as enjoying, Well maybe not as enjoying but it's great that it happened to one of your family or fiends. When I had a boat and took someone fishing, I really enjoyed watching them catch fish. Didn't care if I caught anything or not.

Agreed 100%.

Last year, I had my target buck on cam quite a bit, up until about a month before out MLD opener and he disappeared on me. A few weeks into MLD season, my brother in law sends me a picture of him on the ground under his feeder. I was jealous for a short bit, but was very happy for him for getting such a great deer.
