Mornin' y'all!

My wife and I were given her grandpa's lease out in Jasper as he's not able to get out there anymore. He's not been in a few years but has been steady paying on it since 1980-1981. I know he's got a couple trailers and a 4-wheeler or two out there that he used up until a couple years ago when he last went. My wife and I are both hunters and are wanting to get out and check out the lease as the dues have been covered for this year (and possibly next)

With his current health condition, he's not able to tell us much about it. I found some papers in his Excursion (which he recently gave us) that list it as the New Walnut Run Hunting Club, but the newest form there is from 2004/5, which I can not find any info about online. My wife seems to remember it being sold a few years back but none of the names on the papers look familiar

I have some of his maps he drew out probably 15-20 years ago, showing where his camp site and trailers are. Thankful to his skillful mapping abilities, I was able to find them on Google Earth as well as presumably the main camp for the lease

The only thing I know for sure is the location, but I'm really trying like hell to find some names to contact to get out there as I can find absolutely nothing online about this space. Guessing it's been privately owned for a while? Seems pretty common in the pineywoods.

The lease is mostly confined within the circled area on the map screenshot below, SW of Jasper. There are some houses and entries along CR 323. Presumably the main camp is one of the places on CR 323 as well

Does anybody by any chance have any info on this space? My wife and I are wanting to take advantage of the long labor day weekend to go out there and check it out. Seeing as he hasn't been in a few years, I'm sure it'll need some clearing around the stands, need to get the 4 wheeler operational if possible, start spraying for wasps, etc.

The only names I can find associated with it are the last names Landers, Simmons, Fitzgerald, and a Hampshire who lived/lives across the street

Any info by anybody in the area will be rewarded with a beer or few and some good stories/company...and a couple cigars if you're a cigar smoker!

Are you sure it is privately owned? A good part of east Texas is timber company land. I have a contact with FRC leasing (formerly Crown Pine Timber/Campbell Group/Temple) that might could help you if it is timber company land.

Maybe try and contact one of the neighbors, they could probably help you out with the owner.

The only thing I’m fully sure of is that I woke up alive this morning. Anything beyond that is open for other judgment 😂 I do know they harvest timber, but zero clue if the land is owned by a timber company or private…any help at ALL would be greatly appreciated if your contact has any clue! I’d like to let one of the current officers or maintenance folks or someone know we’ll be out there

Yup started doing that. Haven’t had much luck so I figure I’ll get out and knock on a couple doors

I looked on the Jasper county appraisal districts map and it appears to be owned by Crown Pine Timber.

Came out and met some amazing folks! Got in touch with all the right folks and shared some beers and stories with a couple folks at camp. Greatly looking forward to continuing on with this lease 💪🏻

That is pretty cool. THF comes through again. Honestly, I am surprised anything is left of your Grandpa’s.
