Often.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

For sure, and it’s looking like it’s gone forever.

Something I never experienced as both of mine were gone before I arrived.

I miss my grandfather. He was tough, damned tough, old school tough. But, there was a really good streak though him. I remember him carrying me on his back through parts of the Neches River bottom to go perch jerkin and squirrel hunting. Great man !

The one thing the left can't take from us is our memories.

It wasn't with cane poles or on the bank of a crick, but we went fishing with my parents and children 2 weeks ago. Fried some of those lovely little blue and channel cats for dinner last night.

That America isn't dead yet, its just covered up by people from one side or the other of bs like the vaccine trying to make the other side look like idiots for the good times to shine through.

Yep, same here. He probably wasn't the best person out there, but he molded me the most of anyone growing up.

Made me think of mine. Lot of similar memories. He worked his azz off right up to the end. A week before his 70'th birthday he spent the day clearing and building fence by hand by himself, then got cleaned up to take his lady friend to dinner and dancing and had a heart attack on her front porch while knocking on the door.... Miss that man more than anyone ive ever lost.

Another mine too. up

Grandpa Jes would take me out to White Rock lake back in the mid 60's, fished with a cane pole and bobber and either use minnows, worms of whatever insect you could find.
Grandpa would use his Aluminum John boat to set out the rubber band trot lines.
A good size group of would camp out either in tents and one of them had a pickup with a camper on it and we would play Yahtzee late into the night by the Coleman lantern.
Great times I will never forget.

I always rode my bike to my Grandpa’s house, then walk down the hill to the pond every day. I sure wish I’d have listened to him more.

I only go to meet my grandfather on my mothers side and my grandmother on my dads side. My grandmother did however like to catfish in the creek behind my aunts house. She would have us dig for worms in one of the compost piles then walk us down to the creek and we would fish till we had enough for a fish fry. I wish we had lived closer to her, it was 300 miles each way and I was to young to drive when she passed. Good times for sure.

It’s not gone, just up to us to keep it going. I take my grandson fishing all the time and as soon as he is big enough, I tell his momma that he is gonna be my decoy toter for duck season.

I'll substitute my dad in that picture, and man do I miss those times.

I never knew either of my grandfathers. I would have liked to, but sometimes that's not how life works. For my kids, they never got to meet my dad which makes me sad since he made such an impression on me (both bad and good).

Every Friday during summer gramps would load us up to go to the beach or to a stocked pond. The water in Galveston used to be gin clear back then,

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.
