I wasn't that amped about possibly attending the Dallas Safari Club convention in January, but they have "no availability" at the Omni and the Hyatt (where I've always stayed) isn't even on the list, 4 months out? The two closest hotels? Are they already booked up, or is there a story there? Mox nix. Another year I don't have to fight I35, and, you don't have to attend that over-crowded pecker-measuring contest to book a hunt. Just wondering if anyone had some insight. (My membership is up for renewal. )

The Omni and other nearby hotels are re-booked shortly after the DSC convention ends.

Lots of upscale hotels downtown that are in close proximity to the Convention Center. The Joule, Adolphus, The Thompson, Fairmont, The Statler, Sheraton, Westin, Marriott, Cambria....I might be missing some, but surely there is availability at some of those.

There are a couple just south of downtown on Caesar Chavez that are very affordable. And entertainment options will knock on your door unsolicited.

I like the Thompson and the Statler. That roof top pool bar at the Statler can have some serious eye candy there at night. Its a quick Uber trip from either to the convention center.

Whatever you do, DO NOT stay at the NYLO. Stayed there for a wedding and it was very ... 'urban'. Never have I felt more out of place in Texas, ever.

'Appreciate the suggestions, except, of course, the "entertainment that knocks on your door" types. I've only had that happen a couple of times while I was traveling for work. 'Took me a few seconds to realize what was going on. Talk about "click...click...BANG!" I've just never had a problem before finding a room at the Hyatt, a few months out. If I go, I'll probably impose on a buddy I met at the first THF DIY elk hunt that's recently moved back to the area. His tribe was just down here at my house. It was like a kid's summer camp!

1818 Corsicana 2929 Hickory 1100 Cadiz St Those are a few places I can think of off the top of my head. Clean beds, warm shower, and walking distance to the convention. Very affordable, fills up quick and they don’t take reservations, kind of a quirk but just try to be there by 6pm and you’ll be good.
I can get you a complimentary stay at 1600 Chestnut St.
