First night out with the Wraith on my AirForce Texan. I have hunted with Digital night vision since its inception. Went thermal for a while but never was impressed with the resolution of my Apex. So I went back to glass and a Green spot light and use my old Resolute Digital and my Apex as spotters. Had the opportunity to trade with another member for a Pulsar Wraith the other day and I couldn’t be happier. Got it sighted in to zero at 115 yards based on the ballistics. At dark this boar came in and I decided to wait and see if something smaller was going to show up. Well I waited for about 45 minutes and couldn’t resist taking a shot. Dropped him in his track with a shot right behind his ear. Shot was 115 yards with a 143gr hollow point. Finish him of with one in the heart. My best guess is he was 250+ pounds? The gun is 56” for reference.

Question. I went and found this hog today. Shot on August 13th.Only thing left was the hog’s skull and it was totally stripped. It literally looks like it was euro mounted. The two top tusk were laying beside the skull hollowed out as well. What would have done such a through job cleaning it out? The vultures were on it within 8 hours. What else would strip it dare like that in less than 3 weeks?

What else would strip it dare like that in less than 3 weeks? Between the bugs, coyotes and birds, they get picked clean quickly. I shot a sow at dawn on Saturday morning and it ran off into deep brush. I was sure I hit it hard, but didn't care to go crawling through mesquite and cactus to find a wounded hog, so decided to come back after a day. As I got in the area yesterday morning, I flushed dozens of vultures as I walked in. The hog was in pieces - the shoulders and head were intact, and the hide from the hindquarters was laying in one piece, but about 15' away from the head. Pieces of the spine were scattered about, but no sign of legs or much of anything else. That was just over 24 hours after the shot. Funny though, I've taken others to my dump site and some have them have remained intact for days, and even a week or more, without being stripped or even moved much. Guessing it has alot to do with the temperatures - if it is cool, it takes longer for the stink to get to the scavengers. Saturday it was VERY hot in central Texas, so I think that made it quicker for the predators to find and do their work.

The hogs I put out in the bone pile will be picked completely clean in just a couple of days most times. Skulls completely bare.

Ants will quickly and efficiently clean everything and will eat before, during, and after the larger scavengers have had their fill. How long does it take your dead dove on the ground to be covered with ants? Less than 5 minutes. That's why you pick up your birds as fast as you can and put them away. Ants are too crunchy.
