I’ve been building this rifle for a few years now and I’m excited it is finally finished. I started with a Mossberg MVP that the previous owner had already installed a 19” 300 blackout heavy barrel. Mossberg never made a 300 blk MVP, and I wanted a bolt gun that would feed with AR mags. (This was before Ruger came out with their Ranch Rifle.)
First I replaced the plastic trigger guard and mag well with aluminum ones from Tromix. Next I swapped in a Timney trigger for a clean crisp break. The majority of my shots are around 75 yards here in east Texas, so I went with a simple and light Weaver 4x fixed power scope. It also sports a 45 degree rail for mounting a red light for nighttime shooting.
I primarily load and shoot subsonic rounds, so I zero at 75 and am only around an inch high or low at 100 and 50 yards respectively taking out any guesswork in the heat of the moment. I’m using a Griffen Armament Revolution 9 suppressor with a mini blast shield and tapered muzzle device that is perfect for subsonic 300 blk loads, but can also handle 5-7 supersonic rounds at one time before needing a cooling off period as per their specs. I’ve never shot the fast stuff through it, but if need be it’s nice to know it can handle a few. (This thing is movie theater quiet with the slow stuff.)
Lastly, I’ve been wanting to reduce weight and shorten the overall length for a while. This rifle was a tank with the heavy contoured barrel, so when I received my SBR tax stamp, I had a gunsmith cut the barrel down to 10 inches for aesthetic purposes and allowing a little clearance past the fore end of the stock.
I load up 245 grain hi-tek coated lead bullets for practice and varmints in front of 7.5 grains of Lil’ Gun and also 196 grain Lehigh Defense Maximum Expansion solid copper bullets with 8.5 grains of Lil’ Gun for hunting. Both rounds are subsonic and feed through my 16” AR as well.
I haven’t shot a hog with it yet, just a bunch of small game, but I have a monster boar that’s been coming around to my feeders most of the summer and he is hopefully going to be the first real test this weekend.
My wife said, “I’m glad you like it!”

Awesome! I did the same thing with an MVP in 223. SBR'd it and cut it down to 11".

Very cool rifle. What are you planning on shooting pigs with? I was very disappointed with subsonic performance on piggies.

Well you just made me change my mind on my next rifle. I was going to run a REM 700 with a 16 inch barrel and suppressor on the end, but I think I’m going to chop it as short as I can and just barely clear the stock like you have. I’ll be using a 45 Raptor.

Great looking rifle you have there up

I saw someone use subsonic expanding bullets on a 70lb sika doe. He hit the shoulder at 50 yards and it ran off on 3 legs as fast as 4. Never found her. I would definitely recommend supersonic on hogs unless you plan head shots.

Yep, that's an awesome rifle! I like it a lot.

Same here with the subs on pigs. They will work but you've gotta be close.

Using the right bullet designed to perform at subsonic velocities makes all the difference. I've shot 10 hogs with these and a lung/heart hit will drop them before they make it 30 yards. The Lehigh Defense Maximum Expansion solid copper bullets the OP said he will be using should do the same.

That's actually the bullet he was using. Maybe it was a fluke. It was a sample of one so anything can happen.
