Hey y'all. Wanted to get opinions on gun cleaning supplies. What you use brand/product? Looking to get into something better. Thanks! P.S. This is for handguns, rifles and shotguns.

Get ready to get a lot of different recommendations, including how often to clean them.
You're going to find some products that are touted for removing fouling, others that target copper, and still others that claim they can be used to remove both.
Whatever products you decide to use in the end, a good, one-piece cleaning rod is a must when it comes to rifles and shotguns. Some prefer a stainless steel rod, others prefer one coated with Teflon, while still others go with one made from fiberglass or a composite material. Still others don't use a rod at all but prefer a bore snake approach.

Butches bore shine is excellent, sweets is excellent for copper removal, isso paste is excellent for carbon removal.
Rifles should be cleaned when they are hot after a shooting session, I clean every time I shoot, I am not of the shoot it till accuracy suffers, accuracy suffers after about 15-20 rounds.
The above chemicals will work on pistols just fine as well One piece cleaning rod with a bore guide, I like dewy rods, and use bronze/brass brushes made by pro shot. Use a brass jag and cotton patches. Get yourself a cheap teslong scope to verify your cleaning ritual actually works. Use oil in the bore after cleaning I like using Lucas oil, Mobil 1 blended with transmission fluid and a friction modifier some guys call it hobo oil.. push a patch or two dry before you shoot or go hunting.
No right or wrong way really. Remember this is like asking what oil you run or the ford vs chevy vs dodge argument!

Well, unless you use a bore scope you really don't know how clean your barrel is. I've been using Kroil for carbon, then Wipe Out foam for copper for the last few years and it's worked very well. I have to use them in that order though for it to get clean. Wipe Out will not do as well without Kroil first.
I don't need the practice or exercise, so I do only clean when accuracy suffers, anywhere from 100-200 rds.

Don't overlook all the videos that you'll find on YouTube that cover basic cleaning procedures, as well as those that explain how to field strip many of the most common models. But just as has been pointed out earlier, don't expect all of them to agree on how to do it and what tools and products to use in the process.

For just general cleaning the surfaces and protecting them Hornady Oneshot gun cleaner works very well and even leaves a good protective coat. The Bore some good products listed Boreshine carbon and wipeout for copper is what I have gone with for years. I clean when accuracy starts dropping off on the rifles.

You guys are great! I'm like Jgraider, I will only shoot MOST when hunting, not paper punching. (With the exception of my AR) Thnaks for all the info. I can always count on you all to come with help when the need arises. Thanks again!

Bore Tech Eliminator is what I'm using now.

I have a question on rifle cleaning. HOW DO YOU CLEAN THE BARREL ON A LEVER ACTION? Have been told never to run bore brushes backward down the barrel but that is what you are doing when cleaning a bolt action and pulling the brush back to you. Thanks Daniel

Thanks Daniel The recommended procedure is to remove the bolt and clean from the breech. Again, lots of YouTube videos available for just every model of lever action that will show you how. A bore snake or small, plastic coated pull cable with cleaning tips made for the purpose is another option. Some folks like to keep one of these in their vehicles in case they run into a situation where they need to clean out a barrel while in the field.

He got one stuck and had to have gunsmith remove barrel to get it out.

Foaming bore cleaner 3-4 bore snakes of the correct caliber 3-4 patches; typically the first two are clean
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Thanks Daniel I have never heard of not pulling a brush back through the rifling. You don't want to change brush direction mid-barrel, but I see no harm in pushing it out, and then pulling back through. The reason for not cleaning from the muzzle is to not scar the crown. Disassemble and remove the bolt and clean from the chamber as usual. Someone correct me if I am wrong about pulling the brush back through the barrel.

Otis system works well for semi autos and lever actions, or at least I have never had a problem with it. https://otistec.com/gun-cleaning-kits/

One you nailed...the thought is don't pull a brush backwards across the crown...the 2nd one is if you pull the brush back through the bore, you pull it back to the chamber to reverse direction again...as you have seen, you blow all the crap that is on your brush into the chamber and it's just not as easy to clean as pushing it out the muzzle. I rarely will use a brush and if I do more times than not it has a patch wrapped around it. I have several barrels that have never had a brush run down them. To specifically answer the OP question WipeOut (cleaner and sometimes use the accelerator) and JB Bore Paste can do about everything I need to do to a barrel. I've used the Wilson Combat cleaner too and it's pretty good stuff but I always go back to WipeOut.

Anyone know anything about "Shooters Lube"? Just asking. Another can of worms now opened. IMHO, the are products that perform best as lubricants and others that work best at protecting against rust. Somewhere in the middle are those that do a decent job at both. The information at the link below has been thrown around the net for years and offers good, independent information for making your own decision on what to buy and when to use it. Comprehensive Corrosion Test

Daniel, there is no need to pull a brush back toward you, push it through and unscrew it. On levers, use a bore snake like others have said.

Dalee, Shooters Lube is one of many gun related companies that have popped up on YouTube in the last several months. BBB has received a large number of complaints, mostly about orders that have been charged for but not delivered. Their advertisements use stuff like “#1 cleaner”, “military grade”, etc….these types of claims, to me, are red flags, marketing hype that cannot be proven/disproved.
