Headed south of Menard toward the Kimble County line before daylight. When I dumped the hounds, it was 62 degrees. I had both winds down but decided it was more comfortable with the passenger side up to reduce the crosswind. Dogs enjoyed it as much as I did.
I don't think I have ever seen it this cool in early August in Menard County. I guess it's that "Global Warming" that the Libs are warning us about.
Adios,
Gary

It was nice this morning. I have seen a few times when strong cold fronts move thru in mid to late August. Rain and temps drops happen. IIRC in the early 90's we saw temps like this or a bit lower two times in August. Then realty of August set in the next day or so with 100° again. It takes a strong cold front to push down into central Texas this time of the year. IIRC I think those two years it we had colder August mornings, we had upper 90's well into October.

What is IIRC? I moved to Menard in December of 1985, so I was here in 1991. It may have been that cool back then but my memory is not that good as I sure don't remember it. Of course we had 64 degrees a couple of weeks ago and that was really nice for July. We have been missing the rains lately as it is beginning to dry out. How about Gillespie County?
Adios,
Gary

If I Remember Correctly. I was in Kendall County at that time and I do remember an odd ball cold front making it down there August. The last one was the year of the bad drought from fall of 95 to summer of 96. I was there from 89 till 96. We had only 7" rain in that period from 95-96 , then a really good wet front brought rain and cooler temps in mid August. We go over 2.5" of rain and temps into the 60's the next morning. It was only in the 70 degree range this morning in Gillespie for some reason but cooler up in here McCulloch. We have been in the upper 60's several mornings in July this year. That dry north breeze felt good all day yesterday and this morning. Been missing the bigger rains in Gillespie but did pour out .40" yesterday and another good shower went across yesterday evening. It was enough rain to make it humid. Pockets had better rains along 87 to Mason and then again south of Mason. North of Mason on 87 had water standing in spots. Same area that hail beat the leaves off trees/brush and cactus back in May along 87. SW corner of Mason county had an area that had over 3" in the last 2 days now. Big rain was Sunday afternoon...2.75" in a short period of time. I use TexMesoNet to check localized rainfall and temps in the area. They have stations setup on ranches all over the state. Of course the data is localized but give you an idea of recent to current time rainfall, wind direction, temps, etc. I used them when hunting in Pecos County for temps and wind direction/speed.

I will have to correct my low temp in Gillespie. I just checked a trail cam photo from this morning and at 6:30 it was 62 on that camera. I am sure that is not exact but should be close. So it was in the 60's.

Was out just before sunrise. Actually had a hoodie on and truck heater on low for about 20 minutes. Older I get the more cold natured I get. 61 here this morning.

I'm not to sure this hasn't been the coolest summer I've ever seen here in west Texas.
