Is the inside neck VLD chamfer part straight enough for the bullet to be seated 100% strait in the neck? Will ir affect bullet runout?

I have one and it works pretty good, I don’t have any complaints with it.

The Hornady on has the attachments on the side. I developed (in my head) a jig to prevent runout. Just something I was thinking on. I had the same concern as you.

I have a very similar one made by Frnakford Arsenal. I like it a lot. As far as holding the brass "straight enough," it seems like a lot more effort than it's worth than it's worth to have some custom brass holder fashioned. I also decided i was probably chamfering the case mouth a little too aggressively so I feel like I'm holding it vertically enough.

This is the one I have. I run an RCBS primer pocket cutter in place of the thingy Frankford includes on the top middle station.

Never thought about it causing bullet run out. I figured once it start pressing into the case it would self align. FWIW, I have that Hornady prep center like that and it works great. My ID chamfer tool isn’t nearly as aggressive though.

thanks Tbar, I got to thinking the chamfer never touches the bullet after seating. My bad hammer

I use the Lyman. Very handy. Especially when you are doing a large # of cases.

Was scared off by the price for a while. Once I finally bought it, my only regret was not doing it sooner.

Manual lathe, chamfer/debur with the hand tool. 50 brass, 50 minutes.
Giraud, trim, chamfer, debur in one pass. 50 brass 4 minutes 30 seconds.

Yep that’s it, I have one and it’s a game changer for sure. I use the RCBS unit on occasion for oddball stuff I don’t load a bunch of like 45/70 or 416 REM Mag but the Giraud will save so much time and it’s stupid accurate once you get it set LOL Their is a learning curve to setting one up though..

So, basically the trimmer + $38 for each case you want to use with it (for the case holder) and then you just adjust the blade for each case? That sound right? How much effort is it to adjust the blade properly when moving from one case type to another?

Very easy to change the cutting blade position. Loosen the hex screw, gently nudge it with the hex wrench, push a case down and it will self center. Tighten the screw and done. The cutter only changes for changes in case caliber diameter. So a .308, .300 Win Mag, and .30-06 all have the cutter in the same place, no adjustment needed.

As for the die, use Forster locking die rings on them. So once adjusted, lock the ring, and it is set forever.

The Giraud trimmer is by far one of the best expenditures I have made. Mine is 12 or 13 years old now and still runs like new. Would not want to be without it.

I bought an extra cutter for my Giraud. I have a cutter for .308 (30 Cal) and one for .224 (22 cal). I also bought hornady lock rings for the giraud case dies, that way after I get them adjusted, I just screw them down to the lock ring. Makes trimming easy.

I keep separate blade setups for my most used cartridges. Just did 100pcs of 6mm in 4min. Thats trim, chamfered and deburred.

I use the Hornady like others. Love the hobby but some of the equipment can get pricey. I suspect when I retire I’ll upgrade those tools that aren’t up to snuff or worn out. No issues with the Hornady unit less a burnt fuse one time. Suspect user error though. Never leave equipment like that plugged in indefinitely. Too many storms and service disruptions.

Has anyone used the Giraud Tri-Way Trimmer? I was thinking of getting one of these for my most common caliber.
