Granddaughter is 15 - she raced karts for 3 seasons starting at 9, then had to wait until she turned 14 to move into this class.

The 602 is a sealed spec motor meaning the oil pan, timing cover, heads and intake have tamper seals.
We bought this one from Friezen broken in with IMCA seals, dynoed and dressed with distributor and wires - 378HP at 5300 and 411FtLb at 3800 from the sheet included with motor but that was with a 650CFM 4bbl carb installed.
In the class we run, you can run a basically stock hydraulic lifter cam 350 with cast iron GM non-vortec heads and intake or run a crate.
You get 6K chip with stock or 5.5K chip on crate.
In this class, it's hard to overcome the advantage the vortec heads and good intake give you over stock 350 with castiron heads and intake as both have to pull 15" vacuum at idle so that limits lumpy cams on stock engines.
Both has to run 500CFM Holley, Schonenfled 161 headers and automatic trans.
I build the lowgear only, manual valve body, internally lightened PowerGlide automatic transmissions in my shop for our team and a few others.

At Texana Raceway in Edna, Tx last weekend. The white car is ours also and for sale to buy more parts!!

We run quarter midgets (age 5-16) and have a lot of friends who have moved on to dirt. Kinda sucks that the asphalt track in kyle shut down, but that led to the re opening of i37 in Pleasanton. Houston is trying to revive short track for the asphalt guys and they seem to pack a good crown and decent fields. I been meaning to catch a race in Edna but it never works out. Hope to get to one before it gets stupid hot outside. My friend Tom Beaver has his boy running your class I think.

Race from Heart O Texas in Waco last Friday night.
Unfortunately, she cut her left front tire with 6 laps to go in main and dropped to 3rd.
Back to Texana in Edna, Tx this Sunday Sept 5th.

Have a couple of lifelong buddies that spent time at Longhorn then moved over to Kyle.
Both of them have been running dirt for last 5-6 years as pavement is scarce in Central Texas.

It's far from clean now....
7 races at Texana in Edna, 4 at STS in Corpus, 1 at I37 in San Antonio and 2 at Heart O Texas in Waco......with a lot of beginners starting at 13 years old.
There isn't a straight panel on the car but the wrap breaks it up pretty well so it looks really good from stands.....or further! LOL!
It's in my shop right now to adjust valves, change oil/filter, air filter and pull short track rear end out and install other rear end with taller gears and change tires/rims to match rules for South Texas.
I'll post some pics after I put door and quarters back on so you can see the "not so clean no more race car"

Kayden drove two sessions in her Dad's IMCA Open Modified with a built 383 on Methanol about a month ago at the track in Texana and it helped her confidence quite a bit.

Yeah, stuck with the GM 7.5" - the cars are basically IMCA Southern Sport Mods with rear wing removed, stockish motor, shocks, etc. and a few other changes to slow them down a little.
There is an "upgrade path" from this class directly into IMCA Sport Mod or USRA Limited Mod so it helps get kids started and they can run hand me down cars, used tires and share parts if their family also runs the upper class.

The two trips to Waco was a spur of the moment deal.
The IMCA promoter/tech folks at Heart O' Texas are going to rewrite their rules slightly for next season for Jr. Limited and include 602 Crate Motors and wanted to see how they compare to make the rule changes required for a better class.
My son knows them pretty well as he used to work at another IMCA track and had been in contact and comparing notes.
It was originally a one night stand but we had two weekends off so the second night was a bonus.

We run a similar class in South Texas called EMod that's a little different with lesser pavement pull slicks and a few other limitations but it's open to all ages whereas the Jr. Limited in Waco is 13-17 years old.
They were curious how the two classes compare to promote more cross over opportunities for the younger drivers.

We were one of two cars from the South Texas series to make the trip, our 43K car with 602 Crate and Cooper Koliba with his 04 car with "open" motor.
Cooper is a good kid and an excellent driver and won the Season last year at Texana and is leading again this year so the two gave a reasonable comparison.

Man that is some cool stuff right there! Used to visit a dirt track back in Hell Paso until it shut down. She needs a TexasHuntingForum sticker on that bright car.
Thanks for sharing.
