Pemex platform got lucky it didn't burn up. MEXICO CITY (NEXSTAR) — Mexico’s state-owned oil company said Friday it suffered a rupture in an undersea gas pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico, sending flames boiling to the surface in the Gulf waters. Petroleos Mexicanos said it had dispatched fire control boats to pump more water over the flames. The leak near dawn Friday occurred about 150 yards (meters) from a drilling platform. The company said it had brought the gas leak under control about five hours later. But the accident gave rise to the strange sight of roiling balls of flame boiling up from below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. https://www.ketk.com/news/national/...-gulf-of-mexico-after-pipeline-ruptures/

Looks like Natural Gas. Why are they watering the water beside the flames? So the sharks won't get burned? Inquiring minds want to know..

Those boats do not appear to be of much help.

state-owned Cartel owned, no joke I worked for a company who did lots of business with Pemex. I can't say they were Cartel owned but they certainly had some strange and questionable ways of doing things

It was in a pipeline. Wonder if there was a shutoff somewhere up the line.

It was in a pipeline. Wonder if there was a shutoff somewhere up the line. No bill it was on the water from a leak in the pipeline. Of course they had shut off valves, that's how it was controlled. Watch the videos. Those fire boats were of little use. The current could have just as easily shifted the flames close enough to melt that rig. They were awful lucky.

Looks like Natural Gas. Why are they watering the water beside the flames? So the sharks won't get burned? Inquiring minds want to know.. To keep any leakage from spreading. Keep all the hydrocarbons pushed over the fire and they burn up. Minimizing the environmental impact. That would be my guess.
