I am wanting to leave the camper and take the family tent camping around Cloudcroft NM. Would like to take the ranger and explore some trials.

Any recommendations on camping areas and ATV trails? I've only ever camped there with the travel trailer.

We just got back a few weeks ago but we took our car and had to stay on pavement. Took the truck in the past and went up some pretty good all weather roads south of Cloudcroft off of HW 130 and 6563 towards Sunspot. We just went down most of the all weather roads off of pavement exploring. There were several people camping down the all weather roads because it was bow elk season when we were exploring . The link below has some good information about the trails and road I went down . I don`t remember any of the road or trail #`s. Almost everything north of Cloudcroft is Indian Reservation and east will take you to lower elevation. South will take you to the higher elevations and more accessible trails I believe. Good luck.

Dispersed camping in national forests is the only way to go. Drive until you find a cool spot and set up camp. No one else around and it's free.

Look up the Motor Vehicle use maps to see where you can camp but it's usually about anywhere you want within 300' of the road.

You've got to be careful around there as I've found out before. You can just be driving down fire roads and end up on the rez without knowing it.

I know I don't have to say this for you, but others may need this warning. Be aware of all fire restrictions, they are not issuing warning tickets.

This is the time of year they put up signs for no fires unless in approved campsites with fire rings. If it gets real dry then No Fires will be posted in National Forest. They put up the signs and not responsible if it isn't there later cuz people take them down.
