I'm seeing snakes but very few rattlesnakes, which is odd. I was wondering if the deep freeze killed some. Lets hope so!
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I used to have way too many snakes, mostly buzz tails, but they are now extremely unusual. Like a lot of other things, a 4 year drought some years back, got rid of the snakes. Then the hogs invaded and got the survivors. Now, even seeing a snake on the dirt roads is unusual.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

I wonder if the big freeze did some culling here? On snakes that didn't den up deep enough?

I'm in Central Texas along the Brazos. We are covered up in copperheads this year (which is normal).

That's funny. Last week we had a 3' yellow rat snake in our Frost Bank Processing Center at DFW. Thought all the women working there were going to pass out. Ran it out the back door into the tall grass and it was all good.

Locals are just starting to see them on the norm. Cicadas just hatched, maybe why

I found them! Killed 7 copperheads last night. I was pulling a vine and cutting saplings at the base of a big tree near my property line which is near dense woods. A copperhead rolled out not far from my hands . He was just shading himself as it was still hot. I went back out after supper right at dark and there they were.....coming out of the woods into my grass area.

I see snakes every trip to the creek to fish. 75% of the time it’s been a cottonmouth.

When I used to take my son to the lease we had in Zapata county, he always complained he don’t get to see a rattlesnake. I always replied that was a good day.

Nothing like last year. I’d probably killed a dozen plus copperheads at this point. So far none this year and only a few small ones. I’m perfectly fine with it.

I haven't seen any snakes this year, usually by now I have seen at least a half dozen.

Around my place I usually have yellow bellied racers and Texas rat snakes. Now I am seeing a lot of Blotched water snakes. In total I would have to say there are more snakes this year than last. Haven't seen one copperhead yet.
