I've been wanting to get a good semi-auto .22 rifle for a while now and had been planning on getting a Ruger 10/22. Just want it for plinking and as a general knock around type of gun I can throw in the truck (don't read that as "mistreat" though). Probably something with a synthetic stock. The main reason I was going to get a Ruger was because of the heavy aftermarket support, as I thought it might be fun in the future to modify the gun a bit with a new barrel/stock and whatever else catches my interest. Now I'm starting to think I'd just rather leave whatever I get stock and spend the extra money on other guns as opposed to aftermarket parts. Started looking around at Marlin and Savage, etc, and have read some comments online about how Marlin is a bit more accurate of a rifle strait out of the box, compared to a 10/22. Now I'm not looking for a tack driver here, but if another .22 can get me better out of the box accuracy for the same money, I'd probably want to consider that option.

Enough rambling, here is my ultimate question:
What .22 semi-auto rifles (other than the 10/22) have good aftermarket support? This could also read as "besides the 10/22, what is a very popular .22 semi-auto rifle?".

not too many have the aftermarket accessories the 10/22 does (or that I know of anyways). My personal favorite semi-auto 22 is the Browning Grade I.

i was in the exact same boat as you about a month ago. i didnt finally get a 10/22 and have been happy with it since. i thought it was a blast picking all the parts and doing the mods.

i will not lie, i would not classify mine as a tack driver. but then again i am always skeptical about about people who claim theirs is past 70 yards or so. to me that is simply the nature of the 22lr rounds, inconsistency.

i like to just screwa round with mine at the range and lease. it's good enough to take out a squirrel under 50 yards.

AR15 with Spike's Tactical dedicated .22lr AR15 upper. You're looking at $800 to get into a dedicated gun, but you'll have plenty of add-on trinkets to adorn it with.

Yeah, I'm not looking to go all out like that. I figured I'd be spending somewhere around the $200-ish mark on the rifle.

I did find a few references that the Marlin 60 is the best selling .22 of all time or something like that. Feel like maybe Ruger has made that claim as well. Anyway, perhaps the Marlin is a good option if I don't think I'll be spending money on aftermarket modifications. I just don't want to end up with something that I won't be able to even buy a magazine for in the future.

i guess you have to decide whether it is going to be a cheap whenever shooter, then go with the marlin 794 for 130 bucks at academy.

if you want to pimp out something, like i did, then the 10/22 is clearly the winner because of all the accessories out there.

btw, i have read the the 10/22 is the most sold semi auto 22. but who really knows?!?!?!?!

There all good, but over the years I've had 4 Marlin Model 60's and they just can't be beat. I've always wanted a 10/22 and never had one but I've outshot a lot of them w/ the Marlin.
