Question needs context. Are we talking about yapping at the ramp or are we talking people set up 100 yards from you?

After a hunt either at the ramp or if you are headed back and see that someone is picking up decoys.... do you go over and talk with them?

Not enough answers to choose from. Some I like and some I can't stand. Those that are respectful I like. Those that are selfish and inconsiderate of other hunters, I can't stand. It doesn't matter wether they are a rookie or an experienced duck hunter.

AT THE BOAT RAMP..... I Think it's great to see more hunters out there. (but not too many) I am friendly and often speak with them after the hunts....(At the boat ramp) afterall... these people love the same things I do... they are probably pretty cool people. (Unless they are those a-holes that set up 80 feet away blowing there ka-zoo all morning)

I can get along with all of them as long as they respect other hunters. I do miss the BSing part at the ramp, it seems more and more hunters not only keep to themself, they won't even acknowledge you. I have met many hunters at the ramp that I later hunted with.

The guys that taught me to hunt view everyone as the enemy. If they see a duck boat on the way to the hole you can rest assured they will pass you. If you are not in their hunting party you are the competition. At the boat ramp don't bother asking them what they killed because they didn't fire a shot and if there are ducks in the boat you won't be able to see them. If they do tell you anything it was a lie.

I will never forget loading the boat one day after a duck hunt in Titus county. We were the only boat there, no other vehicle in sight. My brother and I were stacking the 5 limits of greenheads on the front of the boat for a picture while my Dad and his buddies were getting out of their waders. I was maybe 8 or 9 years old at the time. An old pick-up came over the hill to the boat ramp and the guy stopped to say something about all the ducks. My Dad's friend, who is a Baptist pastor, cussed me up and down for being so stupid.

I don't hunt the same way they do. But I know a lot of guys that do.

I'm not really big on socializing at the boat ramp. If I'm at that boat ramp it's because I have scouted and found some birds to shoot at. I'm friendly to the other guys, but not forthcoming, really.

I stay away from said scenario most of the time by only hunting public water during the week.

We had always hunted on a lease in Galveston County off of West Galveston Bay and got along with all on our lease. Sure, we would see a boat or two that thought the blinds were for anyone on our lease, which were not, and not only that, but the waters we used to get there were navigateable until the last flat we'd go across and then it was less than 30' wide. They couldn't hunt the blinds, but could hunt from their boat IF they did not get out of it to set decoys out, retrieve downed birds or use a dog.

A few of those must have been 'local buddies' since after a couple times of fines/citations from game wardens for trespassing & taking game without landowner consent, was enough for them to pass the word along.

We'd always enjoyed talking to other duck/goose hunters and what we'd take or how we would set up for that particular part of the season when the birds were acting differently to our spreads. We were hunting on large saltwater back-bay flats and Sprigs were one of our big ducks to take around mid-morning.

I needed to be able to answer twice cause anybody that hunts can't be ALL bad.

But duck hunters seem like they see themselves as elite and entitled............pretty uppity, and for that reason I voted "can't stand them"

Understood... and I probably should have had better questions to choose from.

I have seen a lot of this "other duck hunters are the enemy" mentality going around and think it's sad. We all started out as rookies and were lucky enough to have someone show us the ropes. Then on the deer forum, everyone is like "it's MY deer" and how dare my neighbor shoot my deer when it went on his property.

I did see some pretty coold stuff last year when quite a few from this forum offered up spots in the boat for new or less experienced hunters and it was really cool. With fewer and fewer hunters going out each year, I hope that kind of stuff stays around.

Absolutely!! I try my very best to bring new hunters, anglers out with me to experience what I have been so fortunate to have in my life and passed on by my father & grandfather.

I have taken several kids (boys & girs) with their parents deer hunting, duck & goose hunting, fishing, trapping, etc. since they may not have had a place to go or couldn't afford it or haven't ever shot a deer, duck, goose, etc. or caught a fish.

It's all about sharing and passing on our heritage to others...if I can do a little of that each year, I feel pretty good especially seeing the excitement on the kids face and their parents as well.

Have a few in line this year from single parent families, disabled or never hunted before.

I enjoy visiting with other duck hunters, never to good to learn something new, but then again I only hunt public in West Texas and the comp for ducks is not to bad. Last time I hunted public here was in the early 90's. Back then me and one other guy were all that hunted on lake Grandbury. Times have changed

Honestly, I hardly ever see other duck hunters. I've seen 3 known duckhunters on public one day and they were hunting together. The only others were some trucks setting up across the road and fields aways from our private spot. We wouldn't have known they were there if we hadn't seen the trucks headlights while they were setting up.

Edit - Both groups annoyed me. The public guys set up pretty close to us and would skyblast and try to call our birds off. The field group shot waaaaaaaaaay before legal.

talked to plenty of duck hunters on public land and all of 'em were pretty genuine people. plus, it's nice to talk to someone who's been doing it longer than you and picking up on any tips they might be willing to share.

Bass fisherman don't like to see each other, either. I'm always friendly to others, I just don't want to talk location, that's all.

Hunting and fishing are not about competetion to me. However, we are all spending time and money seeking a limited resource and competition is inevitable.

My favorate time to talk to other duck hunters is when I'm not hunting. I love finding out someone is a fellow duck hunter. Hell the other day I met someone new while working..we got to talking then somehow got to the subject of hunting. Losing track of time we ended up talking over an hour.
