Probably still around but things have improved to where now there are thousands of options when it comes to knives.

I like classic knives, but I also like some of the new styles. I own Randall's, but I also own Spyderco, Bark River and Fiddleback Forge. It's not an either / or deal.

A departed friend of mine was an old, respected gunsmith who he got into making custom knives later in life. Howard produced some beautiful work. He started out with wood and made some really great folders. Somewhere along the line, he figured out if he utilized more expensive materials, (I believe petrified walrus penis was a favorite), that only added 50% or so to the cost, he could charge three and four times more. So he would have a little additional cost in it, the same amount of work in it and get a bunches more money. It may be the nature of the beast.

This is a friend of mine in my gun club. He’s won awards and been published in magazines. Great work and an even better guy. http://sbuzekknives.angelfire.com/

Not knocking the knife makers and kudos to them for doing what they love.
I personally do not care for the wild looking knives, wood or antler etc is about all im interested in or the plasticish handles on boning knives.

Everybody has their preferences. I am not really a fan of fixed blades. I have a couple and that's all I need. Folding knife can do just about everything a fix blade can and I carry a folding knife every day and have for over 20 years so I like them. I personally really like orange.

How's this for a classic. My grandfather's Western L66. Good old Carbon steel from some point in the 50's. One of my OK buddies made the sheath for me. I still carry it.

Classics wouldn't become such if nobody every changed things up.........I have an appreciation for a custom knife that's well made and original in design as much as a classic....

I only have two customs left and both are fixed blades. I don't carry them on my side, but one of them is always in my day pack. One was paid for and one was a gift. My Dietz folder was stolen. Loveyed that knife. Besides the TX Toothpick, my favorite carrier is the two blade folder shown with the Benchmark being second. The AG Russell is more for food prep than anything else and I do love its sheath. It is a very interesting knife purchased at an estate sale for not much (all silver). The antler handled knife is from a cabinet makers saw blade and that sheath is made out of burnt PVC. The sheath itself is almost a piece of art when considering functionality.

I'm old and old school but usually enjoy the "Bling" but on a custom, give me the classics BUT I did sell my Original LILE, Old #7, unbelievable what they are worth. No a days I use the replaceable blade knives, cant get much sharper and easily replaced blades

A lot of custom stuff anymore seems to be more about the materials used for handles than anything else. I like the old bone or antler type of stuff more than anything I guess, but I do own a couple of large boxes of different knives.....a whole lot more than I'll ever use. I gave up on stuff like a Randal and sold off a bunch of them a few years back. I guess the name on the knife and the materials used just are more important to some guys than the actual performance of the knife. Most of my usage anymore is on feral hogs and they really separate the good blades from the rest !
