A buddy of mine lives on the lake. He wants a fun energetic dog ( water and pool capable)that is smart and can also be a house dog. Less hair is good but that isn’t a deal breaker. Something that will go on a boat, won’t roam to much etc. His last dogs were guard dogs and always mean.
I’m familiar with labs and I know they are a great choice. Is there anything border collie smart and athletic with less hair?
Hunting dogs are fine but it won’t hunt

^^Love em, had two. Not too heavy, she lived to be 12, very loyal, very territorial. My kids were her kids. When they were outside playing, she was not far away Love my German Shepherd now as well. Probably the breed I will have from now on.

X3 on the Blue healer or an Australian Shepard. You still get the shedding but you get the brains of a collie and a better inside dog.

You already answered the Question with your post. Need look no further.
I agree on a rescue if not hunting.
start looking now.
My daughter went to the ASPCA and got a sweet as he77 black lab/German Shepperd mix. She's all black lab with the cutest G.S. head and face, her stand up ears kill me.
There were two sisters there at the time but are probably gone. You can go on their website and see all the available dogs before you go.
Good luck, keep us posted

Go to the shelter and pick one that's happy to see you. Yeah, do that and you'll come home with two! Ours were courtesy of Dallas Animal Services. He's our Mastipitador (he was on clearance and free) and she's our Beagador (possibly a Lemon Beagle?) was on special for $20. Since he's just looking for a good dog, strongly recommend the animal shelter or rescue. Mixed breeds also tend to live longer and are generally healthier. Charlie
