Radical Firearms, 300 gr Hornady hollow point.

I put my Burris XTR II 3-15X on the customer's rifle.

It ain't gonna win any bench rest matches, but this isn't too shabby for what it is. My ballistic calculator had a G-1 B.C. of .197, Hornady publishes a G-1 of .204

As a friend of my uncle's says "your bullet has the ballistic coefficient of an Aspirin" roflmao

How much drop does that giant chunk of lead have between 100 and 200 yards?

2.0 Mils (14.4")

Calculator said 3.0, but I dialed less intentionally trying to hit paper low, during a ladder test. It didn't hit low, it prettuch hit level. Maybe this rifle has a faster barrel.

By contrast, a very, very long list of cartridges are .4 to .5 Mil

The drop on the one I use to have shooting the 325 gr FTX bullet was 18" at 200. I called it a flying brick!

You want to see really bad, try the 100 grain Lehigh aluminum bullet in the SOCOM.

They are accurate (that is 10 shots in one inch at 100 yds) from my 16" PacNor SuperMatch barrel.

Velocity across the Chrono is just under 3,000 fps at the muzzle, but drops off to just under 1800 fps at 100 yds. (again across the Chorno).

Most 300 grain bullets aren't too bad. 400 grains and up start to fall like a marble off a table beyond 125 yds. The 540 grain bullets I load are meant for close range (100 yds and in) but conveniently print the same at 50 and 100 yds. Bullet is just crossing line of sight at 50 yds. So very handy for the way I have my hog stands set up.

What speed were you seeing from chronograph? Or what speed does it work out to given the data you’ve gathered?

I’m surprised that bullet isn’t going end over end by the time it gets to 200 yds lol

I haven't taken my 50 Beowulf past 100 yet, but it shoots pretty well at that distance. Zeroed at 25 it hits dead on at 100. Charts show the 350gr to be about 12 inches low at 200.

I did a load development for .50 Beowulf two weeks ago, with 400 gr bullets. It was whole lot more than 12" of drop at 200 yards. More like double that. But, it was a 400 gr...

Then you'd have think the same of the venerable 45/70.

The 458 SOCOM besides utilizing the same bullets is the ballistic twin of mid tier 45/70 loads.

I know you said that in 'jest' so I am just adding a bit of information. I hand-load for mine and have shot many thousands of rounds through it over the last 12 years.

I've tried/used everything from a 100 grain bullet up to 540 grains. With good 300 gr. bullets (Barnes TTSX) and max loads....its a legit 200 yard cartridge before it really starts dropping hard. But retained velocity is better than what some might think.

wink

Did you try a hand load for it?

This one cycled just fine. And, as was said, for what the cartridge and rifle is, shot quite well.
