I'm amazed nobody else has suggested this.... I use a Bug Tamer jacket (with face shield) combined with black nitrile gloves.....100% mosquito proof! It works better than any chemical product I've ever used, and it's a mesh/screen material so you can just throw it over a t-shirt and stay cool. Years ago while dove hunting in September in Zapata county, I hosed down my son with a Deet repellent. The mosquitos were thick as fleas that year, it was like a jungle down there. He only had bites on the elbows, where we missed putting repellent. Later that night he got to feeling bad. Guess it was due to the Deet and the heat. I was dove hunting with a VERY nice, minty Belgium Browning A5, and sprayed down with deet... Took up my shotgun, and my hands were instantly sticky because the deet was dissolving the stock finish. Luckily, I was still close to the pickup, and immediately cleaned my hands and sprayed a bunch of WD40 on the stock, and cleaned all the deet off of it. You could see on the stock where it was messed up. But once I got home, I cleaned it more, and in a couple of days buffed the stock finish with a very fine compound. It came out okay.... But I absolutely won't use deet near anything plastic. And never around firearms again. Been using Sawyer Picaridin this year. And a Thermacell some. Yep, I ruined the dash on my new-to-me old Z-71 that way. I killed a pig and was about to get to work on it. I always roll my sleeves up and spray my arms down good with OFF just to help keep any flees & ticks off. I went to put my phone in the little suction cup phone holder chingadera on my windshield and my arm rubbed on the dash. Went to leave the next day and then noticed about a 10" section of the dashboard with all of the plastic finish eaten off and bubbly/black. We put that on our skin.

Just smear a thick layer of mud over all exposed skin. This is also good camouflage.

40% Deet around the house and 100% when I'm out in the woods. Alaska was the worse by far, and even with a head net and 100% Deet, they still found any skin that didn't have anything on it, or had washed away from sweat. Funny thing was the line on my forehead where I wore a hat. That became a ridge of bites from being hit over and over again, even thought I put Deet there, as soon as it wore off, they got me.
It really doesn't matter what brand you buy, the percentage of Deet is all that matters.

If you have a blind, use a thermocell. If you still hunt, I like to lay my clothes out and spray them down with both picardin and deet. We have a lot of ticks here, I can’t even go fishing without getting a few unless I lay my clothes out and spray them. Use both the picardin and deet I know for sure they will leave me alone. Maybe overkill but I won’t have Lyme disease

I have always used pure vanilla diluted with water in a spray bottle. It smells good, doesn’t harm anything, and keeps the skeeters and buffalo gnats off of you.

When I lived in the Amazon, we would put the generator in the house. The co would drive them out. Course, you'd get a little poisoned....

Anybody remember in the 50's the Off was in a little bottle and was very smelly? Had to rub it on and your hands smelled up your lures or bait.

While hunting and fishing I started using Picaridin over a year ago. It works just as good or better than OFF. Does not have the odor Deet does and does not damage my stuff. If anyone starts spraying a bunch of Deet product while standing on the upwind side of my fishing gear, turkey calls, rifle/shotgun, etc, I will start yelling at them. Thermacells are great too, but I'm trying to get more minimalistic with hunting and not carry so much stuff. Yelp I buy an 8 pack of the Sawyer’s every year. Keep One in each vehicle and one on porch and one in kids athletics bag How do you pronounce that? I bought a couple of cans of Cutters brand with 15% Picaridin in it and so far so good, I really like the no chemical smell to it.

I did some birthday drinking yesterday. Started with vodka, then switched to beer, then started the Wild Turkey shots. I woke up sitting in a chair outside at 4 am this morning. I wish I would have put on more mosquito spray before I apparently passed out. I bet there were a bunch of mosquitos with hangovers this morning.

I bet there were a bunch of mosquitos with hangovers this morning. they why I don’t drink anymore Yeh, I didn't feel too great this morning. I grilled chicken legs & wings, and burnt it all pretty bad. Covered it in hot sauce and ate it anyway Mercy.. Last time I drank Wild Turkey was over 2 years ago at a company doe hunt. Everybody there was newbie hunters, so I felt obligated to jump in there and help everyone clean their deer (plus, I just enjoy doing it). Very nice cleaning station up on a rocky little hill (I'm not used to walking on rocks). So, for my cleaning services one of the guys there kept filling my mouth up with Wild Turkey since my hands were dirty. Was going down pretty easy. Anyway, I needed to take a leak so I stopped, rinsed my hands off, and attempted to walk down the hill towards my truck. Right there in front of everybody, I tripped over a dang rock and began "the run" down hill trying to catch myself. I never caught myself. I ended up running head & shoulder first right smack into center of my drivers side door. BANG! Hit that door like Lawrence Taylor making a tackle, dented the door in and then found the ground. It was pretty embarrassing. Funny, but embarrassing. Everybody thought I had to have broke something as hard as I hit my door, but the only thing hurt was my pride. Happened in front of the Safety Man too. Oops.

Started with vodka, then switched to beer, then started the Wild Turkey shots. I was finally starting to feel 100% this evening. And then I read this.
