.222 Savage w/ 4X Redfield. Probably killed 20 deer with it from the age of 8 to 16! It's actually my mother's rifle and it has taken more deer than any other rifle in our family!
I actually took my first deer (doe) the year before when I was 7 with a 16 guage and 00 buckshot! One pellet right between the eyes. Your right, if I live to 100 I will not forget it!
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Rem 30.06 traded a Honda CB 100 motor cycle to my uncle for it when I was about 12.

My first deer gun was an M-1 30 caliber carbine, not a 30-06, but a 30 carbine, little bullet, looks like a pistol bullet. Shoots a 110 grain soft point. We got it from my grandpa, and my dad, brother and I all started hunting with it. It is a short range gun, I wouldnt shoot a deer over 75 yards with it, but it did a great job.

My first gun was a Remington 788 in .243 w/ a 4X Luepold scope. My Dad got it for me for Christmas when I was 10 years old in 71. Probably one of the best guns I've ever owned. It was stolen from my brother in Cisco.

a .30 carbine, you must be kidding! that is a small gun for a deer. how many did you drop with it? my first gun was a 30-30, did't kill anything with it, so when i was 12 i got my .270, which i still use today
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

First gun I shot a deer with was a 20 guage with buckshot. I was visiting some friends and they lended me the setup that evening. Shot a 6 pt. First real deer gun was a .270 I saved up for in high school. Worked at Jumbo Sports at the time in the Hunting and Camping Department so got a discount which helped. Was a stainless/synthetic Savage bolt action with fluted barrel and muzzle brake. Killed my 2nd buck with this gun. Ended up trading it for Remington .270 then traded that with some cash for my Ruger M77 stainless .270 which I still have today.

My first deer rifle was a 6.5 Italian Carcano. (The same type gun that Lee Harvey Oswall used). Back then you could buy them at Montgomery Wards for $27.00. It would not shoot straight no matter what you did to it. But I did kill a deer with it. Had climbed up in a tree because I had always heard that if get up high you had a better chance of getting a deer. Being young and dumb, there I was. Hadn't been there 15 minutes, an eight point buck walked right straight down below me. So I took aim on his left ribs cage trying to get a heart/lung shot. Bamm! He dropped in his tracks. Dead as he could be. Got down and tried to find where I had hit him. No bullet hole anywhere. Reach over and grabbed his antler and it came off in my hand. Hit him right between the eyes. Those Carcanos were some kind of gun!
Always drink upstream from the herd.

First deer rifle was a Marlin 336 in 30-30. Got it when I was 14. Never shot a deer with it, and bought a Rem 742 in 30-06 two years later.

My first deer gun was a Marlin .357 Magnum lever action. The underbrush in OK was so thick I never had over a 50yd shot. Sold it and bought a Marlin 30-30 that I still have. However I hunt now days with my 7 mag and 6.5x55 SE.

Killed my first buck with a Triple Deuce Remmy when I was 7, moved to a 243 after that. Dont have etiher of them now, and wish I still did, good shooting guns!
As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind...Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks--Thomas Jefferson

We have killed many deer with that 30 carbine, well over fifty, it does the job just fine, if you dont push the range, and can hit the broad side of a barn. The bullet isnt big or fast, but it is plenty to get the job done.

Winchester .243 that my grandfather gave me when i was 15 and killed two deer and missed two with it. I have since graduated to my grandfather's old .30-06 and have been slaying them ever since.
It's not skybusting, if you make the shot.

Remington Model 700 30.06 with Leupold 3x9 Scope. Got it at a used gun store in San Marcos. The stock was scratched and banged up to hell. Not a bad deal @ 500 bucks

Marlin 30/30 was the first gun I hunted with, never killed anything with it, well except for that poor jackrabbit I split in half with it. Shortly thereafter was given a Savage 110 .243....and have killed MANY things with it. Still own the gun. It is my safety net. I know when I take aim with that rifle EXACTLY where the bullet is going to end up. When all else fails I grab my .243.

First gun I hunted with was a Marlin 357. Shot at a deer with it (running and missed). Couple of years later, dad got a Marlin 30-30 that I used and shot my first deer with it. First gun I actually bought was a Ruger Mini-14. Shot several deer with it and my wife uses it now. I now shoot a Browning 7 mag.

Wow, that is exactly what happened to me, other than I was 16 when I got the first rifle(marlin 336) and 18 when I got the 742 in 30-06.
My wife's dad (girlfriend at that point) introduced me to hunting at 16(with his back-up 30-30). I bought one the next week! My dad is anti gun and anti hunting.....except when he is eating my hog sausage I provide for them!

Mine was a marlin 30-30 also. I shot my first doe with it. Wish I still had it but I don't. My pops gave it to me for Christmas when I was 12.
