My sweet O Neg blood is a total attractant to the bastards, and I react badly to them. The absolute best is MUSKOL or BENs 100, that are 100% DEET, but that is horrible on your skin and anything plastic that you touch! I use it all, but find Deep Woods OFF in the spray works as good as anything. ThermoCell is like ringing the dinner bell around me!!!
Beer and whiskey, 'cause you can't drink bacon!!

Off Deep Woods on clothes and Off Family on exposed skin. My ranch is covered with them so I have to spray down every day since about April.

While hunting and fishing I started using Picaridin over a year ago. It works just as good or better than OFF. Does not have the odor Deet does and does not damage my stuff. If anyone starts spraying a bunch of Deet product while standing on the upwind side of my fishing gear, turkey calls, rifle/shotgun, etc, I will start yelling at them. Thermacells are great too, but I'm trying to get more minimalistic with hunting and not carry so much stuff.

.410's.. Can't sleep, 2hrs pain wakes me up... Actual bow season, @ OSB, mosketoes/knatts in Oct. were bad. Used the dirt scented cover spray with the face netting. Sprayed down good... They were right in face buzzen but weren't bitting (mosketoes)... Majority of me hog hunts thar were the cooler months... Stay safe, bro. back in 90's got hot by tick, & got that tic fever. Real sick.

I can drench myself in DEET and they will find blood. Long sleeves, hair and full beard seem to be my best defense.
One shot is all it should take.

I'll tell you what to be very cautious of using. Once, on a dove shoot I was attacked mercilessly by squadrons of mosquitoes. The farmer then suggested that I rub the leaves of the green Southern Cone Marigold (we call it khakibos) on the exposed parts of my body. This would "ward off all mozzies" so I rubbed it on my arms, neck, ears and face. I can't say that I did a thorough test of the remedy because about an hour later, after I had started sweating, I started to itch and then broke out in a rash where I had rubbed the leaves. I had to use all the water I was carrying to wash it off as best I could. The rash did not seem to bother the mosquitoes however . I use various commercial insect repellants with mixed success. Where the mozzies are really bad I wear long sleeves and a light facenet combined with the repellant.

Years ago while dove hunting in September in Zapata county, I hosed down my son with a Deet repellent. The mosquitos were thick as fleas that year, it was like a jungle down there. He only had bites on the elbows, where we missed putting repellent. Later that night he got to feeling bad. Guess it was due to the Deet and the heat.

Spray down the clothes with permetherin and let it dry, then I use the thermacell. This works for 3d and hunting.
No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

He only had bites on the elbows, where we missed putting repellent. Later that night he got to feeling bad. Guess it was due to the Deet and the heat. I was dove hunting with a VERY nice, minty Belgium Browning A5, and sprayed down with deet... Took up my shotgun, and my hands were instantly sticky because the deet was dissolving the stock finish. Luckily, I was still close to the pickup, and immediately cleaned my hands and sprayed a bunch of WD40 on the stock, and cleaned all the deet off of it. You could see on the stock where it was messed up. But once I got home, I cleaned it more, and in a couple of days buffed the stock finish with a very fine compound. It came out okay.... But I absolutely won't use deet near anything plastic. And never around firearms again. Been using Sawyer Picaridin this year. And a Thermacell some.

Spray down the clothes with permetherin and let it dry Isn't it the insecticide that is labeled outdoor use only because it is harmful to humans? I use a cypermethrin product for fiddle-backs and scorpions but not for mosquitoes.

It’s only down fall is UV breaks it down pretty quickly
