Good Lord! I have not been paying attention to meat prices recently. I went by the supermarket for a short list of stuff, and I added a couple of thick Filets to the list (since I was wanting steak). And Didn’t even look at the price, but when I got home, the wife checked the price and asked me If I knew how much money I just spent. Two reasonable sized thick Filets, and it was $36. Wow! Why didn’t ya’ll sound the alarm.

Well, I’ll get the good wine out. Not having Diet Coke with something this expensive.

Steaks. Good, choice, or prime?

When we go to the meat market to buy meat it is usually the current market price on steaks. The other meats we buy is everyday prices and a little higher than most places but it is good.

Yep Normal, I did hear about Coke. Thought about trying to be less white, but being a well-to-do old WASP, I just didn’t know how to go about it. And, of course, being white is not MY problem. And heck, the real over achievers these days are Asians, and nobody says they should be less of what they. And what they are is successful. And ya gotta be successful to buy those real expensive steaks.

My neighbor has quit drinking cokes. I’m Ok with Diet Pepsi, but get tired of Diet DP pretty quick.

They sell steak by the pound. Ever think about cutting your portions? Winners never cheat and cheaters never win.

Just get a couple large ribeyes and have more than one meal. It averages out that way.

Had the butcher slice some top sirloin for some cheesesteaks on the griddle. Didn’t even look at price till we got to the register. $29 for some cheesesteaks!

Think about a local cattle rancher. The Retail price of beef is way up. Being manipulated in my opinion. Whole sale prices of beef cattle fluctuate very little. If you're a beef eater and want to save a lot of money over the long run, get a freezer for the garage, buy a finished steer from a rancher, and have him custom butchered.

I don't have a huge herd but I've started selling steers to friends and family over the last couple of years and actually have a hard time keeping up with demand. I make a little more than auction prices but a little more than a little is better than just a little. And they are getting a much better product and w-a-a-a-a-a-ay! better than supermarket prices.

My dad did that when I was growing up. He did it the hard way with a butcher knife and meat or bone saw.

Bought 2 fillets from Rudolph’s Butcher in Deep Ellum last year for around $60. Damn good cuts, but too much money, Kroger steaks work for me.

Bought some steaks from a local cattle raiser that sells on the square and had to throw them all out tonight, they stunk and tasted rank. Adios to $75.

If you are planning on buying one to take to the butcher, check with the butcher first. I know at one point they were scheduling out a year in advance to get one done. We might all be cutting them up like Bill's Dad.

I am eating mostly Venison, Chicken Thighs and Hamburger from Sam's.

All of it is getting crazy, my fixed income is not keeping pace with inflation for sure.
