Just how ignorant can this hunter be? No details yet, but what a tragic story.

Let me share an incident I had several years ago in AR. The area had a few hiking trails and there were signs everywhere telling non hunters turkey season was going on and to not wear red, white or blue on the trails.
I boated to the back side of the area for an afternoon hunt. Struck a bird pretty quick and he was coming but slow. I saw a hen in the road heard the gobbler just below me. I could hear him walking towards the hen. I heard a couple of clucks and leaves shuffling. The next thing I saw was red bobbing towards where I last saw the hen. I swung towards an opening and at the last second something didnt look right. A couple of steps later I saw a hiker in black pants and a red bandana wrapped around her knee. I was shaking I was so shook up. I jumped up and asked her WTH se was doing. I was pissed but chilled and started explaining to her about the signs and safety. Her reply was she thought it was meant for hunters. Everybody needs to do their part.

Hard to imagine that you can mistake a walking man for a turkey. Idiots.

The hunter was clearly at fault. But no way i’m going hiking in the woods during hunting season.

A former coworker was fall turkey hunting in Arizona. He was at a waterhole and across the water another hunter comes in a starts calling, yea in the fall..A truck shows up, driver hears the call and shoots out window into the bushes, sound shot. Guy formerly calling stood up screaming and truck takes off.
Coworker runs to render aid and his son in on phone to 911. Victim had minor damage and game warden caught the shooter on the way out.

Years ago I was spring turkey hunting near Colorado City. I was sitting up against a cedar tree, scratching on my call. Baby Huey, a big-ole boy carrying a shotgun, came strolling by, clearing looking for that turkey he heard. I sat silently, letting him pass within 10 yards. I scratched again and he came waltzing back by from the other direction, looking for that bird!

I got up to leave and scared him to death.

I personally know of 2 people who were shot during turkey season. Both wearing camo and both using gobble tubes, Effing East Texas neckbeards shooting at sound and not a confirmed target. One of them was pretty minor (relatively speaking), had to get a dozen or so pellets removed. The other lost his right eye and has had extensive plastic surgery.
