My ranch is covered with them and they are really varied in fruit size this year. The middle pic is from the big vine in the bottom pic so I’m wondering if that has them further along. I’m going to make some fine wine this summer for sure.

Do your grapevines climb on something or how are they supported?

I have muscadines on a field fence. My father used to put up wood and t-posts and run wire and rope between them.

They are on pretty much every tree and run along the ground too.

They are hanging over the county roads in my area. Some make jelly with them.

Could be mustang grapes and muscadine grapes. I think mustang are ready before muscadine are. They look very similar. The mustang grape is tart where the muscadine is sweeter. They look the same to me but have always been told that mustang are earlier than muscadine.

Our entire extended family would pick them, all the women would make jelly and grape juice.

Us kids used to smoke the dried grape vines like cigarettes.

Those are Mustang grapes. We have a lot of them on fence lines. The wife uses them for jelly making.

I smoked grape vines as a kid also maybe that's why I'm a nonsmoker!

Lots of mustang grapes in our area. I do maybe see some muscadine spots on your larger ones.

Upon further research, apparently I've got both Mustangs and Muscadines. The Mustang's leaves are white colored on the underside.

That reads Ball on the jar. Never mind. One picture is worth a thousand words.

I was always told by the old man.....if they turn colors in June or July they are mustang. If they turn in August or September they are muscadine.....as a rule of thumb anyways.

Muscadine grape vine’s leaves are the same color top and bottom. The Mustang’s are almost white on the bottom of the leaves. Top pick is the Muscadine’s with the tiny grapes. Bottom pic is the Mustang’s.

They are tough to tell apart. Cool that you have both.
Either way, the jelly is good up

I have noticed the Muscadine’s are on the lower part of my ranch which borders Lake Whitney. They must need more water.
