My 84 year old mom lives in a condo in Plano Tx. She is going to the HOA to request to build handrails for the walk to her car. Steps are 5 to 7 ft apart and there will be about 5 sections. So the walk is about 25 to 30 ft with a step every 5 ft. I can build it for her but do not know where to start with materials. Any help or guidance is appreciated

To meet code I would go with 1 1/2” pipe and put some rounds caps on the ends. Would be pretty easy and simple to build. Let me know if you’d want a hand

Might need to talk to the planning or code department before proceeding. Look up the Texas Disabiaty Accessible Code for handrails.

Plano permitting = PITA

First point of contact be hoa, if they do not point you to the city stay away. Good luck my dealings of the city and hoas tells me this will make you go nuts.

As the reply above says check out the T.A.S website for details on handrails.

I think at 84 ADA should apply in your Mom's case. If the HoA or City start giving you grief bring that up.

I know Home Depot has some handicap rails, parts and supplies, simple 4x4 posts and attachments. Nice stuff, not cheap, but just dig some homes, and put it together.

Ramsey, one of my trucks is a mobile fabrication/welding rig. I’ll come knock it out for you in a day. Will need to get with the city and verify what they will require. I can pull any permit needed and have my GL insurance still on file with them if they require it. I’ll bring Reese and we will do it for your mother. Just buy the material, rest is on me. You have my cell, Kent

They sell 4” square plates pre drilled in the corners. Buy those and some concrete anchors. Then the toughest part is determining the angle to cut the tops to make it all come together.
