For all yall that love big 8s I wonder if you would pass up the Typical 10 I saw this weekend. A Texas killed low fence from 2019 that as a Typ 10 grossed in the mid 190s and his g4s were only about 4 and 5"s. He had a 4" kicker and he still NETTED 188 as a Typical. Biggest framed 10 I have ever seen. 28" beams and 26.5" inside. I hate to tease without a pic but I dont know if the hunter would want me posting. Just picture Dstrouds 8 but add g4s and a bunch of spread. Hopefully the big 10 will be in San Antonio for the Statewide TBGA show in July.

Guesing you are referencing something akin to this with 28 and 29 inch beams. Even so, its apples and oranges when you bring in a 188 typical ten with a 4 inch kicker into the discussion about preferences on a 140 8 or a 155 10.

If he was 4 yes, if he was 5 it’s a coin toss, if he was 6 in a drought it’s a coin toss,

Yes Hud, very similar to that 10. And also, yes, I was off topic but after seeing the mount this weekend and being so blown away by the huge frame I just couldnt resist working it into a thread somewhere. Sorry.
Back to topic- I like big 8s, but no way would I shoot a 140 8 over a 155 10. But in reality I wouldnt shoot either one unless the 10 was real heavy with good brows and very symmetrical and evenly proportioned.

Thanks guys for bringing this one back on topic. My original thoughts were two mature bucks, straight 8 at 140", no stickers or kickers and straight 10 at 155", again no stickers or kickers. I have several low 130 8s and a 10 or two in low 140s. Of course I'd take a 180" 10 over just about any 140-150, 8.

If the 140” 8pt and the 155” 10 pt were standing side by side I would shoot the 10 pt., if they met the age requirement. I had an opportunity to shoot a 6.5 yo 140” 8pt that was was trying to tear down a mesquite bush. I took advantage of the opportunity. I had seen 2 tens that would have gone 150” and 160”, but were only 4 and 5 yo so they weren’t available for harvest.

I got a 148" big eight on the wall that missed by 2" I guess I should have passed on! confused2

I thought exactly the same

Guess we all have different standards is all.

148" 8 below. Big bodied deer that dressed out 184 lbs.

Even more proud of this 145" 8 that I got off my own little place in 2014. He only dressed out about 135 so he almost looks bigger on the wall that the 1st one. lol

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Both are fine examples of mature low fence 8’s. Congrats!
