I don't want to pay taxes to a school district that I do not have kids going to. Can be?

The thing is.......you never own it. Youre just making payments to the man. Don't pay him and find out.

I want everyone to pay the man.

You can actually defer your property taxes if you are 65 or older and let your estate take care of it.

We have a place in Canyon Lake and the value went up $150K this year!! The only saving grace is that I still think the market value is higher. I like the place, but I don't think I love it that much any more.

I protest every year but have not won since Rockwall CAD went to an arbitration board. The whole process really sucks if you have to go in. They give you a time but it is not actually an appointment but the earliest they will call you in. I sat there 3 hours after my time once. I had to get to the bank before it closed and it took special permission to leave for 15 minutes. Then I went in and they told me my house was appraised correctly but neighbor who had all these improvements was too low. The board told the appraiser to make sure he corrected the neighbors value. I told them that was not fair to me and slammed the door on the way out.

I pay a company 200 bucks or so, they usually get it dropped 40K or 50K each year.

I let them fight it, that's what they do for a living.

Friend of mine beat this whole deal a few years ago

Bought a piece of land out in the country

Moved in an older single wide

Left the outside alone and remodeled the inside.

He keeps the acreage in Ag

Sounded like a wise idea for me at some point

I've been saying for years..................
You don't own nothing in Texas...............
Not your house, or your car, ........................
And if you have a business, it's a nightmare...........

They only freeze the school portion, which is the biggest piece of the pie.
