Unions are historically tied to democratic leadership, Biden has been open on his stance already. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on whether you’d prefer to work for a company that has an organized union or choose to represent yourself?

Only had one union job and it is the only job I ever got laid off at (wasn't senior enough despite being the hardest worker on the floor). They had no problem collecting my dues, but saw zero benefit. Will never make that mistake again.

They had their place until they became corrupted to the core. I'm sure it didn't take long for the the first union ever to learn how to skim off the top.

carpenters/jointers union in colorado kept coming to jobs and trying to get me to sign up. never could tell me why I should take a cut in pay, forced to pay dues to people I would never see, submit to their work policies, not have a job waiting when the one I was on ended.
was making about 135,000.00 a yr. as a carpenter/home builder and owned a winter time maintenance co. union was offering me 20.00 an hr. with no guarantee of a 40 hr week min.
they are no longer needed, if you aren't able to find work that pays well then maybe you are not worth what you expect? jmo

They were valuable back when they started . Employers didn’t care about safety and paid very low wages. Unions offer the employee no advantage in today’s world. Companies pay competitively relative to their market or people leave. Unions are leeches that hurt the company and the employee . Employees are always going to want more of a company’s profit, I’m the same way , but unions won’t help you get your “ fair share” despite their promises.

I said this on a union post last week. I have a hard time wrapping my head around seniority being rewarded over hard work.

Fine with a "union" but.....
Can't be forced to join.
And employer can't be forced to negotiate with them. If the employer wants to fire them all and start over, they should be able to w/o any special permission from the government.

I'm a no/hell no kind of guy but the Amazon deal is perplexing. If they werent so big it wouldn't be, but it is very interesting watching it from sidelines. I say they beat it. I can see them dropping/banning Amazon retail business across an entire state to prove a point. Their AWS cloud platform business is where the real money and power is. They can toy with unions on retail goods side all day long... Amazon face is one if an online retail platform but just like an ice berg its what's below the most don't see

No. It causes nothing but a hassle and bureaucracy where I work.

I was once in a union, the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). At least back then (pre obamacare), the insurance was excellent & free and covered my whole family as long as you paid your dues (which were only $25/month, no idea what they are now). As far as everything else goes, it was a joke. I'll never work in a union again.

A Union tis only as good as the ones running it... Unions were set up ta help low income workers... Worked several union places... Gave up chance ta be floor man (running cryvack room) in MN @ a plant... a lady who had 20 some years was inline, only reason i was offered twas i new all the stations, she was a scaler... Turned it down outa respect for her 20 years... Twas given pretty much run of place after that, filling in, were needed .. Several years later, got offered ta run a differant section.. turned it down... @ foundry in twas wanted in 50 states, (low-income worker) they said they gonna start me @ the bottom... they weren't ing... Handed me a shovel ( requires manual laber) @ put me under the machines while running , shaker pans, belts, elevators & such.. 10 hour day, 20hrs last day ta get me 40hrs... did everything out thar, became reliefman, no one wanted it, on a roving crew, & made it the highest pay, iron pourer... Had chances ta be in maintenance, & electric... Any ways they tried going union for over 30+years... listened ta the ones pushing for it... told them union tis good if run right... It give & take... not going inta details, whin did go union, demands, were high, keep from shutting down, give & take, place twas sold... people lost jobs, my years of relief man on roving crew, made me secure, new all the area's... New owners made a lot of changes, twas a safer place ta work, for some... twas double standard... Lost a bundle, health shot, & some of the going on , left... Union if done proper, helps low income workers... Just my others will have thar own opinion... Ya'll know the old saying about opinions, mine stinks, i puts beans in my chilli.. pappy... Social distancing from MN...

Cant stand a man that is too lazy to work but lines his pockets full of hard working people's money and he has the gall to call himself union boss. They all sit behind closed doors smoking big cigars trying to figure how to screw the working man and the company, "if they don't give in we will call a strike and still get what we want" !. Screw um.

That sums it up, Colt likes Unions and beans in his chili.
I think if you’re only qualified for, or driven for low income work, then that’s what you shall have. I don’t think the Union should save you from that.
There was a time when this country needed Unions. That time is long since past. There have been laws in place since the 60s to protect workers. These days Unions are just company killers.

Our shop had one union vote. Our employees voted it down. The whole thing was started by a couple of white kids that had just started. They really wanted to be paid more than some Hispanics and blacks that had been with us for 20 or even in a couple of cases, 30 years. I later had the pleasure of firing them both for stealing. 'Had a run in with a couple of IBEW pukes on our property. They were a couple of thugs from the union office that were watching one of our customers train some (non-union) lineman at our facility. They made me use foul language when I told them to leave. Just high school bullies that never grew up. Even when they're not mobbed up, they act like it. Our grandfather taught us - if it goes union, chain the doors and walk away. We were prepared to. Ever notice the "Live better, work union" bumper sticker is always on a POS car?
...and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Gen. 1:28
