A new engine has been a long time coming. I've had two new tundras and the gas mileage was my only gripe. I'd try a turbo.

Bed size depends on what cab size you go with. Exactly, and who needs that monstrous back seat when you can get a bigger bed. Just a no brainer to me. Kids.

I bought a ‘21 Tundra. It is my second Tundra. I have heard it rumored Toyota was going to a V-6 in the ‘22 Tundra. The new 6 cylinder will probably be good but I bought a ‘21 to get another 5.7.

I have a 5.7 and it’s bullet proof. The specs are impressive but I don’t buy Gen 1 of anything.
I just looked at it and man it’s ugly and I love tundras. Shame.

The new engine may have something to do with CAFE standards. I didn't look anything up, but thought Trump was going to relax that a little. To each their own, but I don't want a V-6. I've read that it is torture on those smaller engines to get so much power from them.

In defense of any auto maker, I wouldn't scrape any head way with CAFE with as fickle as our political climate is. I've read that it is torture on those smaller engines to get so much power from them. If you are using that power, yes. Back when you built a small block to make 450-500hp, you had to make the whole motor hot as hell whether you used it or not. Huge valves, cam, compression in particular. Now, you build a strong motor that uses full power/boost for 5-10% of it's life and the other 90% of the time it gets to run as an economical 3.5 V6, not a flippin race engine. I would not buy a gas turbo to tow 10-11k 75% of the time but it makes plenty of sense if you only wear it out 10-20%. With today's technologies there's no reason to avoid the turbos.

If I remember correctly, the Tacoma had a supercharged engine several years ago. I believe it was a third party supercharger that Toyota would allow owners to add under warranty but that’s been discontinued.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

I know they had one for the Tundra 5.7, it was a dealer-installed option. I've seen two; supposedly it jumped the 381hp to around 500. ![[Linked Image]](http://assets.trucktrend.com/f/12310504.jpg)

These little motors are very robustly built in the block/mains etc. These small displacement turbo engines are built like an absolute brick sh!+ house compared to the v8's of yesteryear.

I have a 2010 Tundra with full back seat and long bed. I like everything but the gas mileage. Been thinking about a new one for some reason. But, if I do it, I'll wait until they are plentiful again. I talked to my wife's nephew last week who sells GM products. He tells me that I shouldn't get the same "money off" deals as in the past. Their inventories aren't as easy to replace these days. Their max is about $2,000 off list.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Motor Trend says all Toyota V8s are ending.
But Ford said the same thing years ago.

I always heard they were bought third party but the dealer would install. Not doubting you at all.

From 2007-2013 Tundra owners could order a TRD supercharger kit from Toyota. Toyota installed them and they came with factory warranty. The TRD supercharger was a casualty of changes in emissions regulations, and that is a shame. The factory supercharged Tundra had 504 HP and over 500 ft pounds of torque. I for one would like to see Toyota bring that back.

I have been looking to get back in a truck and am waiting on the new Toyota Tundra with the V6. I looked at the Tacoma but it is in need of an update as they still have drum breaks on the back axle. Not sure I would like the small truck, I had a Ford Ranger back in the 80's and it was hard on the folks in the back seat. Like said above, there is a very tight supply of Toyota vehicles right now so I will wait till the supply catches back up and the new engine has been out awhile.
