They have done a wonderful job with museum and National Civil War Park. Thanks for the pictures. I have never made it to the National WW2 War Museum in NO yet but will someday.

Screwed up and put this in the wrong section, was meant for photos, can a mod move it to the appropriate section?

Few more pics.
Union guns and Confederate guns point at each other across a small deep draw.

One thing a person need to take into consideration when looking at these pic's. When the siege of Vicksburg took place the countryside was barren, all the tree's were cut down. This can be seen in the old photo's of the battlefield. Some of these trenches were no more than 50 yards from the opposing force. The sight, the sounds, the smells must have been horrible, I suspect there are still bodies there that were never recovered.

Been a few times pretty neat place. I wish I had one of those cannons to play with.

Plan on spending a couple days....we spent 1/2 a day there a couple years ago and barely scratched the surface.....we need to get back down there!

I've passed through Vicksburg probably a hundred times and haven't stopped to see the museum...added to the list!

I stopped one morning thinking I would spend an hour or two driving through. I ended up there all day and could have stayed longer. Amazing place. The ghosts of brave and battered soldiers surround you.

I hiked thru it as a teenager in the Boy Scouts back in the 60’s. That is about when they discovered the Cairo IIRC.

I had been by the WWII museum a number of times. Finally stopped in and it was worth it.

My wife and I went there back in 1990 and took our kids back when they were old enough to understand what they were looking at. A very historic and somber place.

I have been there a few times, it is worth the trip. While in Vicksburg there are other museums and McRaven (most haunted house in MS) for the ghost hunters out there. McRaven was used as a field hospital in the Siege of Vicksburg.

Is this the same Hospital that is on the war ground? I remember seeing a house that was used as a hospital.

To me this overlook of the cemetery and the quietness was was pain full to think about all the unmarked graves of both sides. Just fallen soldiers to one cause or the another. This early in the CW we did not have grave register service or even dog tags. Graves just go on and on most without markings.

Is this the Texas Monument? Sort of looks like it might be.
