Yessr, have also ran into similar with incandescent lights/ballasts & dimmers. They are not all compatible.

Had an Engineer buddy two years ago that was having a hard time with a stairway light. Intelligent man, but not an Electrician. I drove out to his place to help after talking with him several times & trying different things. Long story short, it was bad light bulbs. Not just the bulb in the fixture, but the whole box of bulbs that he had. The only way to tell what was going on was to put a meter on the bulbs and check continuity. All of the bulbs in that 4 pack were bad. Pulled a bulb from a working light, showed him the difference on the meter, and problem solved LOL. Bulbs were compatible, just defective.

I think he needs to call “THE MAN “

but I bet the answer lies in the closest duplex receptacle to that switch (dimmer).

Ha
Good observation. It’s for ambience. Sometimes on, is just to bright.

I do. It's nice to sit with enough light to get around. Don't need to be able to read small print.

I had an outlet not working in our garage. Replaced the outlet. Nothing. Breaker box all good. Finally located the problem- it was a GF tripped in an UPSTAIRS bathroom. Why in the world they wired the garage outlet in with a GF upstairs in a bathroom I'll never know.
Also make sure you don't have a "soft-tripped" breaker. Had that, too- lever didn't trip but it needed to be reset then back on.

Back to the GFCI idea.
As this is on the back porch, it makes sense that there is a GFCI somewhere.
It is possible that you have a GFCI that seems to work correctly, but isn't. You push the button and it trips, press it again and it resets, but it is not passing power through it. Heck the GFCIs own outlets may even work.
How have you been checking the GFCIs?

And wrap them wires clockwise around them screw. Drives me crazy grin

The romex coming through the bottom of the box makes me wonder where it's fed from (assuming the romex going out the top is to the light). The romex looks like it's headed down that wall.

Roll-Tide, what you need is a circuit tracer, which has a transmitter you clip to the dead wires and uses them as a transmitting antenna, and a receiver which lets you follow that wire back thru the walls; when you find the place where the signal stops, you've found the break (or switch or whatever). It's the big brother of the "breaker finders" commonly available, but the transmitter is powered by a battery rather than by the line, and it puts out a clearer signal.
Beg,borrow or rent one and it will lead you to a break or to a GFCI that you didn't know you had.

I haven’t had to to mess with it this week.

Directly below the switch is an outlet on the inside and one on the outside. Both work fine.

One most likely feeds the wire coming from the bottom of that box. Open them up an see if there are wires loose

Did we get this repaired or did we burn the house down?

Thanks for the help. Finally got to look at it tonight.

The outlet below the switch had a wire not hooked up. Working now.

Good.

FME most residential electricians today do a really [censored] job. Have found lots of issues with new/relatively new installations. No excuse for that.

Anyway, glad you got it figured out Sir.

Yep. Brand new houses with less than perfect connections. Absolutely 0 excuse for it.
