Went to look for a new vehicle for the wife. We have a child now. He is 2.75 years old so that is a factor now. We looked at a telluride, sorento, atlas, and 4 runner. Still want to look at a palisade, Cx-9, ascent, and Santa Fe. Anyone have one of these? If so how do you like it? We are probably going to take the telluride out of the running because it is nearly $60k for the model we want and for that money she rather have an RX-350.

I’d go look at an Explorer. My wife has an Expedition, but we have 3 kids in the 10,11,12 range.

I’d skip the Mazda. Bought a brand new one in 12 and let’s say before it even hit 36k it needed a new motor

I pushed for explorer. I like Ford, but she wasn’t a fan of explorer at all. I Liked the expedition but she said it was too difficult to park.

Didn’t even think of Buick. I’ll have to check them out. She really liked the sorrento, but mid 40k I can get a gently used Lexus for that. A Lexus IS a glorified Toyota but every yota or Lexus in the family has been bullet proof.

I was going to get the Santa Fe, but didn't because I had a feeling Biden would win and I knew gas prices would skyrocket. I bought the Sonata. Santa Fe is really nice, especially for all the safety equipment that comes with it.

The Ascent also has the stop/go feature, I believe (most Subarus have it)...and you have to turn it off every time you go to drive if you don't like it. I don't believe the Santa Fe has that, my 2020 Sonata does not.

That is nice. Just sent that info to the wife.

I’m having a hard time spending mid $40k on a Kia. I know they have come a long way like Hyundai. It’s a depreciating asset so I’m not looking at roi, but for there top trim levels I think they lose the bang for buck appeal.

Are most midsize SUV’s fwd these days?

My wife drives a Chevy Traverse AWD and will be replacing it with another Traverse soon. Eight passenger capacity, so lots of room in the back when you fold down the seats. Hers has 170K miles and not even a hiccup yet. My daughter drove it and she is questioning why she bought the Tahoe.

Personally, I really like the Telluride a lot, but I drive a truck!

I understand that, but my Soul had a very high resale value when I sold it. They hold their value. The Telluride usually sells for more than MSRP. Those things are hot...and Kia has a darn good reputation these days. The Mazda is a darn good vehicle with a BEAUTIFUL cabin and interior on the Signature. You can usually get a really good warranty (I'm thinking it's 100,000 miles on the drivetrain) with one of their Certified Pre-owned. I'd seriously look at those.

Some stay away from the KIA because of vanity.

Honcho, Because of the chip shortages ALL new vehicles are going to be high. Take a look at the number of vehicles on dealership lots , VERY LOW and they don't know when shipping will start again. The big 3 have shut down several plants every where. Your best bet might be, if you can, sit on it for a while. Prices will come of f of the MSRP when the chips start being produced again.

The Santa Fe is very reasonably priced. The Palisades and the Telluride are similar. The 4 Runner is a Toyota and my fishing partner just bought one and let's just say they aren't giving those away right now. In fact, he bought 3 hrs from his home because he finally found someone who would give him what he felt was a fair deal.

We rented the Atlas for about a month when my wife's Volvo was being repaired. I was very impressed. Drop the rear seats and it is cavernous. Good luck - vehicle shopping can be fun.

We just got my wife a telluride and so far are very impressed with it. I'd check the price again. We paid about 52k and there were very few options we didn't get. Despite being a kia, it feels like a luxury car with a 100k warranty. She came from a 2015 loaded Grand Cherokee and the telluride is the nicer car. Loved the jeep, too.

Bought the wife an RX350L a few months ago, trading in a Mazda CX9 Signature which was a great vehicle with no issues. The Lexus is at another level though of quality, ride, etc and it doesn't take long to see and feel it. As mentioned, Lexus vehicles are bulletproof, and the service is phenomenal. I know they get rave reviews, but I personally wouldn't spend $50K + on a Korean Hyundai or Kia.
