Looking for simple DIY instructions on how to build a cattle or hog panel blind? Which panel is better? How do you stabilize it so the wind won't blow it away? What do you cover it with so it will be blacked out and you will be protected from the weather? How do you connect the panels together and how do you secure the material you cover it with?

Will be placed on a pipeline.

General idea in high speed but also gives a list of materials used at the end.

Here is another idea. In the past we have made some like this out of panels, and then brushed them in with cuts of cedar trees. Not my picture, ours were 3 sided backed up to a cedar tree facing an open field. We would just shove cedar limbs into the openings at random. No top, no door, cold when it is cold.

Made one using fencing and t posts for the corners. Took pvc and made an x across the top and laid more fence over it. Tied together with typical wire used for fence panels. Wrapped the top and sides in the thickest black plastic Home Depot had. The door was just a flap and the same with the two windows. We then covered in burlap. Attached again with wire. Held up for two years the first time and the cows chewed it up this year after we did it again. I am going to use old fence panels to build a new bow blind this year and caulk the caps between the boards.

Pallets are a good option for a less than permanent blind too.

So, you have to punch holes in the burlap to tie the wire. Did that cause the burlap to rip worse?

The burlap already has holes. I bought it at Academy.

Look at regular burlap at a fabric store like JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby, some of the weave is so loose that you can stick a zip tie through the weave.

Burlap degrades over time and winds have the tendency to rip it. I prefer the UV resistant camo netting as per BBar and below -

I use treated 2x4 to build by base box (5'x7. 5'). I use one 16' 50" cattle panel and one 16' 42" panel. Place ends inside side base board, bend over and tuck other end on inside of other side board then fence staple them. Now have an upside down half moon dome. For ends either cut cattle panels to fit or most guys will cut plywood to fit for ends. I cut out my shooting windows to preference (I usually only put one or two in front to cut to down on light. I then use scrap fence pickets and wire horizontal at bottom of window cut out to the cattle panel on both sides and across one end (other end has a door). Then cover with heavy duty black construction mil (Home Depot or Lowe's) and staple it very liberally to base boards and the added fence pickets. Then I take a heavy duty used tarp (trucker's tarp, used heavy canvas tents, used heavy mil billboard advertising tarps on craig list) and overlay the black plastic and liberally staple it all over. Very dark, very dry. I do not put floors in mine. Light enough to load in pickup or on trailer, move and drag with 4 wheeler/utv. Once in place, brush it in very heavy and add fresh green cedar, juniper etc through the season. Very room to bow hunt, cross bow, rifle, video. I keep two quiet and comfortable swivel office chairs and swivel/tripod in it. Tall enough to stand and wide enough to easily draw bow. I do not put any windows on back side, stays dark inside and haven't been busted even with deer routinely within 5 feet.

STX Ranchman has posted several times his plans and photos which I based my builds on. I just don't use the coconut erosion mats and like the heavy duty trucking tarps. Blinds have been out 5 yrs and no problems. I tuck them in shaded areas and brush in really heavy. I need to take some pics

If you have cattle in the pasture I would not use any straw or erosion mattes to cover...instead use a tarp or even the old wool sacks(built in cover scent)if you can find them still. Cattle will eat or rub on the straw or mattes. My blinds are heavy enough to stay in one spot or you can tie them down with t-post on the corners. A really bad wind can move them but it took a hurricane to roll one of mine into the brush. I rolled it back and tied it down after that. If you store it in the off season the straw or mattes will last about 3 seasons.
Search on here for an old thread that member on here posted about building a haybale blind. His was cattle panels and welded frame. It was topnotch. Google haybale blind builds and you will get tons sites with photos, videos and how to builds.

I have been researching ideas and it seems pretty simple and reasonable. Definitely cheaper than buying a blind. However, I do have some questions.
1. Can 1 person build it by himself? Once I bend the cattle panel into a half moon, will it hold it's shape until I get the 2d one bent and can wire them together?
2. Lots of options for the outside. Mine will be more permanent. Do I need to go with landscape fabric only or should I put a tarp or other more waterproof material over the landscape fabric?
