Any experience with the Boyd At-One stock? I have a Remington 700 VLS in a 22-250 I’m getting set up for my boy and was recommended to check this stock out for a short length of pull. Thoughts? Other cheapish options for a short LOP stock I should check out? My boy will be 5 in early April and planning to give it to him for his birthday. Just got the rifle back from getting cut to 20” barrel and threaded.

I've got one. It's fine for the money, but not great. My Manners is in entirely different league in terms of quality, features, and durability.

I missed that it was for your kiddo.
I have a 6yo and my AT-one is way, way too big for him, even with the entire adjustable butt removed.

Well that does help. I was talking to my smith about cutting down this vls stock and that’s when he recommended the At-one saying it’s lop was shorter. He said he could cut this one down, but would cost about me about the same as the Boyd’s. I don’t trust my cutting skills well enough for me to do it.
What’s your kiddo shooting?

I did the at one stocks for my kiddos they are perfect for them and have grown with them. Excellent choice, I did sporter weight rifles because they couldn’t hold up a varmit barrel rifle.

I chose the Archangel stock by ProMag for a .22 build (they make it for the 700 also) due to its adjustability. LOP goes as low as 12 3/4”.

What’s your kiddo shooting? I just have the at-one on my ruger 10/22. It started fitting my daughter when she was 7, so I expect it'll fit him soon. But he's kind of small for his age and she was tall for her age, so he be 8 before he can use it.

I just looked these up and seems they go down to 13" LOP for the 700 short actions. I have an iota krux on a different rifle that has the same LOP. The At-One goes down to 12.5"...now I'm almost rethinking some things lol. I just looked up the Magpul (which I can't stand those stocks) but it was 13" as well. Good help so far fellas. Thanks. Any other short LOP stocks I should look into?

MDT chassis can be made to get a shorter length of pull, and adjustable comb height. I don't shoot chassis rifles for my own use, but I bought a chassis for my daughter since it can be shrunk down to fit her, or made longer for any adult to shoot. The stock can adjust as she grows.

ZK - I take back my first post. I haven't let my son try to shoulder it in a while, and it was fine with the butt pad totally removed. For my 10/22, that's fine. For a real rifle with real recoil, I'm not sure if the hard butt would be workable or not. But it did fit fine on my 6yo.

Just a little update. I picked up a spare VLS stock identical to the one that was on the rifle and decided to do a little DIY whackin on it. Standard LOP on the VLS stock was 13.5". I cut 1.5" off the butt stock, destroying the factory recoil pad trying to get it off. I had a Limbsaver pad on an old crappy stock I stole and got to grinding away at it. I need to work on the bottom angle a bit more, but so far I'm pretty pleased with how it came out! The Limbsaver recoil pad is quite a bit thicker than the factory pad, but my overall LOP now is 12.25", so 1.25" shorter than it was. I'll get better pics this evening in better light, but the top stock is the factory stock that was on it and the bottom stock is the spare i picked up. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/03/full-49141-287370-a7275903_071b_4706_a397_a70ee9ea42e6.jpeg)

Good for you! ![up up](/forum/images/graemlins/default/cup.gif) Figured out a way to DIY a fix for the problem. And you ended up with a better recoil pad. I don't see a down side here.

I really wouldn't mind it being another 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch shorter, but that Monte Carlo cheek piece would get ugly, real fast. It's still a hair long for him, but this thing doesn't kick at all. Now I just need to get a load worked up for it, and practice practice practice.
