So................. thinking here. Watching Covid threads(dying due more to being obese), surgeries thread, health threads in general. I cant spin my head on this and get the correct answer. Then again maybe there isn't one?
My dad died at 79. 2 pack a day Winston smoker since he was 8 yrs old. Alcoholic till about 15 yrs ago. He suffered a major stroke about 5 yrs ago had prostate cancer about 25 yrs ago yaddy daddy doo.
My mom. Passed away at 83. Smoker for most of her life. Non drinker, never. Went through 5 cancer episodes. 2 of which were double mastectomies.
79 and 83, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Of course don't smoke, drink, consume sugars/carbs, eat fat, and the list is endless. Some of us are just destined to kick the bucket, imo what ever right or wrong things we may do. Agree???

If your a big smoker and drinker (like my dad) the last few years will suck. If not, I think you will more likely have the normal stiffness, aches and pains but better than the alternative. Based on your parents I'd say 85 is a good target, more would be great if the quality is there.

your mama and daddy probably ate cleaner foods in younger days played in the dirt; ate bacteria on a daily basis, no sanitizers were used had plenty of antibodies , were emotionally and mentally stronger than the drama queens of today
if you look at the food the mass eat today, it's no wonder most of them are fat, sick and die as easy as a fat cat with heart attack

Nope, if you average the two ages at death of your patents, you get the average lifespan of a human.....

7mag, everyone will die. Its inevitable.
How we die is largely up to genetics. Some people are more susceptible to physical damage from things like smoking, drinking, living a bad life. Others aren’t. And that’s the genetics part. We hear as many stories about the 50yo dying of lung cancer from smoking 35 years as we do about the 85yo with a 70 year history of smoking who died in his sleep from just “old age”.
I say the same thing about all kinds of physical ailments, some bodies are just made to handle damages while others are not. Look at the nfl, why do some players develop CTE while others don’t. Why do some soldiers develop tbi or ptsd while others dont. Everybody handles physical stress differently.
But to say smoking and drinking are not a physical stress is a fallacy. I dont believe you are trying to say that. I think you are just asking whats the point....and to that i would say smoking and drinking all your life is like playing russian roulette, you just dont know what you got until its too late.

Agree. We are all destined to kick the bucket. It's just when your card gets pulled, your card gets pulled. My dad's great grandmother was 113 years old when she passed. Native American's owe Europeans for bringing modern medicine to save them? I don't think Natives would have needed modern meds if Europeans hadn't brought the need for it. My parents both have Native American ancestry from 2 different parts of the US and the people tend to live long lives just sticking to tradition. Some of us that have tried living the American way are now suffering from ailments that were not heard of in our elders but those old folks never went to the Dr to find out if anything was wrong. They just kept moving and living. Both sets of my grandparents were well into their 80's. My parents are Closing the gap on 80, while my wife's mother passed in her 60's, her dad has been ill since his 50's but is still kicking at 70, we are his care takers. Biggest difference between them is my parents won't slow down, her parents hit an age and just gave up on living.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Why worry about something you can’t control? I lost a few friends before they even hit 21. House fire, fell off the back of a stationary truck, (no drugs or alcohol involved) and cancer. I realized long ago that everyone is appointed a time. For me, it is gain.

I've been told (and believe) that the majority of our lifespan is due to genetic factors. Sure, lifestyle choices make a difference, but if you come from long-lived stock, your odds of long life are much great than someone whose family tends to die off in their sixties.
Both of my parents are doing well into their seventies, and my grandparents all lived into their eighties and nineties (except one who died in an accident). So I'm optimistic about sticking around for at least three more decades if not longer.

79 and 83. Sounds way too young to me. Of course, my mom is celebrating her 95th next week and still going strong.

Al of us have a set date on deaths calendar......God expects us to live each day like it’s our last.....which it will be for all of us eventually.....life and death are 2 halves of the whole being....one cannot exist without the other.....

One size doges not fit all but the average age for a male in Texas is 75. I'm living on borrowed time.

when it's your time it's your time. Yep. My Grandad smoke and drank all his life, he quit drinking about 5 years ago, still smokes. He just turned 85. Dr says he's in good shape.

If your a big smoker and drinker (like my dad) the last few years will suck. If not, I think you will more likely have the normal stiffness, aches and pains but better than the alternative. Based on your parents I'd say 85 is a good target, more would be great if the quality is there. Good assessment
