We’ve got 15 acres out by Greenville and that grass has been way over grazed and overgrown with thorns and brush. I’ve got rid of all the brush and mowed everything. Looks much better but there is more weeds and crap than grass. As soon as I have good weather and no wind I will spray everything with remedy to kill all the in wanted crap. But I am wondering if I should over seed to help get some good grass to come in. Most everything will be pasture except right by the houses. What should I be looking at that I can seed

Might want to sprig it ( costal ) probably grow faster. You could go to your local NRSC ( soil conservation ) the one around here will let you use the sprigging implement, you have to buy the grass. Might be a waiting list, most of the time it is.

It has been my experience that native bermuda will come back up. A couple bags of a high nitrogen fertilizer should help it along.

Get a soil sample done and follow their recommendations. It will give options for hay meadow or grazing use. What type of grass was growing before it was overgrazed?

This, we have worked on fields that looked almost dead. Got the results and being in East Texas usually had to put down 2 to 3 tons per acre of lime. It was amazing to see what getting the PH right would to a field.

Whenever you have either fertilizer or lime put out by truck, make sure you are there when it is done and ask to see the truck setting. Only way to know that your are getting what you are paying for.

Remedy is a little hot for broadcast spray.
You need an applicator license, but Grazon Next will get the stalky plants. Round-Up will get the broad grass leaf weeds. Both are 1.6 ounce to the gallon, or one pint per 10 gallons.
If common Bermuda is there, it will be fine. If you want to scatter seed, I would put out coastal Bermuda. A couple of years of shredding and you'll have a nice stand of coastal that can then be made into hay. Yes common Bermuda will make hay, but not as many bales per acre. My place was very sick, and over grazed when I bought it. Lots of shredding, herbicide and some plowing and it has healed up.
As far as the plowing goes. If you can get some dry ground right now, run a disc across all of it. It will break up the compacted soil, and aerate it. It will also encourage weed growth. Spraying is after plowing, not before.

My preferential late winter treatment is to disc mid Jan then spray round-up when the cool season/spring weeds start coming up - but we're too late for that now since the bermuda is coming up (at least at my place in VZ County it is) and a lot of the cool season weeds have already gone to seed.
If you didn't have animals grazing it before the big freeze/snow and you haven't had any since you might get away with not running a disc over it this year (deep freezes w/ moisture can help loosen up the top soil a bit).
I would hit it with GrazonNext (at the higher spectrum application rate for the woody weeds you're trying to control per the label) or any other 2, 4-d herbicide here in about two weeks (1st of April), repeat around the middle of June, and hit it once more around the 1st of August. That should get most of your weeds in their early life cycles - you want to kill them before they go to seed. I wouldn't pour fertilize to a pasture I'm trying to re-claim. I'd wait until next year - but that's just me. A couple of years of following a good routine and you'll be in excellent shape. A & M Commerce may still do soil samples, but I'm not sure. I know we ran a bunch in labs for various people but that was years ago.
Overseeding giant bermuda is a good option. FYI coastal bermuda has to be sprigged - it can't be planted from seed nor does it produce seed. Giant Bermuda does and can be broadcast and drug. I've had good luck with giant.
A good herbicide program/routine is 10x more cost effective than shredding weeds and more efficient for producing the highest yield of forage.

You need to do a soil test first. If the soil heath is not right, seeding will be a waste of money.

A good mix of native grass seed based on recommendation from , Agri-Life or NRCS in your area may be best bet. Will require a lot less maintenance. Turner Seed Company can mix about any type of seed recommended and provide guidance on planting.

Glyphosphdate can be sprayed with green actively growing bermuda present. I've sprayed it in July, at 95°F, and sunny. Proper dilution, proper rate applied, tall bermuda with taller Johnson grass mixed in. The Johnson dies and the Bermuda might yellow, but it might not even do that. It's what glyphosphate was designed for, the treatment of broad grass leaf within Bermuda grass. At $2 per acre, hard to get, and more expensive MSMA isn't worth it.

Two dollars an acre? That's only $30 for the entire pasture. Do you hire out?

You left off the part of my statement - most of the weeds have gone to seed - so that specific winter routine isn't worth the effort in my experience and opinion at this point. If you spray greening up bermuda with glyphosate you WILL cause the greening up process to be delayed - which is counter-intuitive when trying to establish bermuda as quickly as possible when there are other selective broad-leaf herbicides that are just as cheap and effective that will not cause injury or delay greening to bermuda. You can very easily kill bermuda with it if you don't have your application rates correct or your sprayer isn't calibrated correctly. Glyphosate is a non-selective herbicide - it kills everything at the right application rates. I too have used it on bermuda pastures to control johnson grass - but it has to be done correctly as to not cause too much injury.

Yes the rate to kill bermuda is times 3.75 what I said.
I use glyphospate now to October. Nice bermuda grass, less weeds. Pretty much the only weather I worry about is getting it out without a rain on it. Even though it only needs to sit about 30 minutes.

I bale and maintain about 1500 acres of hay and pasture land. Started using Duracor and been very happy with results. Don’t need a license to buy it. It will kill everything you don’t want and pasture will look rough first year but with proper fertilizer and maintenance you will have a hell of a field in a few years.
Spot on advice about asking Ag Extension office. I have a contact there if you need it.
