Headed up to Oklahoma for a couple of days fishing. I was hoping to catch early spawn but the extreme cold front has water temps at 50 degrees today. Any advice.

I have a house on Schooler, the state stocks it annually but they dropped the level this year to to do some work on the lake. I don’t know how fishing will be. It’s right up against Hugo Lake though and they’re known for their Crappie.

Never fished that far south, but I would say deep structure will be the place. Good luck!

I see folks in the kiamichi catching crappie all winter I assume they do till they move shallow.

I can tell you deer bed down between the house and the water everyday. It’s only about 40 yards to the water.

What water temp do you look for for crappie?
Where we were this weekend was low to mid 60's. We and many others were catching crappie in 6-12 foot of water up against a weedline on the edge of a river channel.

River channel would definitely suggest the spawn has started there.

I'm pretty sure the license is 50% for NR Choctaw. If you ever want to go man just holler I'm usually around that way and enjoy nthe company.

That 50% NR sounds right. I’ve never filed on it, I just know they changed it recently. They announced it at one of the Labor Day Festivals a couple of years ago.
Will do, there’s tons of public land around Hugo lake. I don’t the rules on rifle/bow, but I do know their rifle season is short.

3.21 pounds last Sunday. 17" long with a 16" girth. My personal best. Water was 57 degrees and chocolate milk covered. The fish were there, but very spooky and you had to put it on top of them to get any sort of bite. We fished cleaner water, bit it was cooler. No fish there. I'd look for the warmest water you can find in the 10-13' range. Fish are full of eggs and about to spawn.
