Supermarket chain Kroger opened its first automated warehouse in Bulter County, Ohio, last week, reported Hamilton JournalNews. The massive 335,000-square-foot customer fulfillment center is entirely run by robots and artificial intelligence that can put together an order of about 50 items in six minutes compared with 30 to 45 minutes it takes a Kroger employee to pick items from shelves.

So basically Walmart, Target, and Amazon are going to follow and 1000’s of American jobs are going to be lost. The CEO of Kroger is very excited. The cashiers have already been replaced with self check out. I am glad I have a job that a computer can’t replace.

They set up an automated warehouse at Frito Lay in Rosenburg, a guy went in to do some maintenance and one of the robots ran over and killed him.

Replacing human labor with machines started big time with the cotton gin, followed by cotton picking machines. The real problem, as I see it, is that the minimum wage earners, when replaced by technology, won’t have the skills to do much of any thing else. The ‘victims of cotton technology’ and their children were examples of that. Many went to work in the small town stores, which fell victim to Walmart. So they worked in Walmart, and Walmart increases the level of their technology and puts the low-tech folks out of work again. The younger ones will be Ok, but the older ones will not.

And what happens when people can’t find work even when they want it? They are forced on government assistance and they become angry at the ‘Haves’. And we, the Haves, get mad at the tax increases.

Not a pretty picture. I watched, as a kid and young man in the Mississippi Delta, as manual labor disappeared from the cotton field. I watched as the stores in my small town died as people shopped at the big stores an hour’s drive away. My little home town has no stores today. It has a small branch bank, and you can buy gas and burgers at the gas station on the bypass. That’s where the speed trap cop is. And that’s all that’s left. Maybe a thousand people, 99% minority.

In for the winning post, this is about as accurate as you can get for the past and present growing issues we have for the manual labor force. It’s a spiraling downward effect that will cripple the middle and lower class at an alarming rate in the near future.

Yep, went and looked at a video of the robots and there will be lots of maintenance required, especially as they age. That is a whole lot of moving equipment and conveying systems under them. Just imagine the damage they could do to each other or the tracks during a power failure.

This kind of thing is inevitable. I do feel sorry for unskilled labor such as warehouse workers, but this is the way it is going to be.

Guys, I think yall are wrong about this one. This is an instance in which technology creates jobs. This is a market created by convenience. This is curbside grocery market in which people pay someone to create the technology, shop, take to the curb, and even deliver. This has nothing to do with the actual grocery store, those will keep on as they always have. It just eliminates so many personal shoppers in the Isles.
