So he thought, anyway. Maybe the chic from the other thread is his sibling?? Never mix nature with humans. Thanks to ole Tim new laws besides don’t be that dumb azzz like placing food a mile away from camp, don’t feed the bears, don’t pet the bears etc. Tim not only were your remains found in the bears belly but so we’re your GFs. No pitty for stupidity. Grizzlie Adams was a TV show Tim. I think the saddest part was they had to shoot the bear. Why? Cause Yogi was doing what Yogi is suppose to do. He is a King of Predators and should not be befriended, IMO. Spin on the other thread. https://allthatsinteresting.com/timothy-treadwellThe air taxi pilot quickly alerted park rangers who arrived and searched the area. They found the couple’s remains quickly. Treadwell’s mangled head, part of his spine, his right forearm, and his hand were recovered a short distance from the camp. His wristwatch was still attached to his arm and still ticking. Huguenard’s remains were found partially buried under a mound of twigs and dirt next to the torn tents. The park rangers were forced to kill the bear as it attempted to attack them as they recovered the remains. Another younger bear was also killed when it charged the recovery team. A necropsy of the larger bear revealed human body parts in its abdomen, confirming the rangers fears – Timothy Treadwell and his girlfriend had been eaten by his beloved bears. In the park’s 85-year history, this was the first known bear-inflicted death.

Timothy's trouble is that he ran into a non-normal bear. It was older and unhealthy, had bad teeth. No doubt it saw Treadwell and his girlfriend as low hanging fruit.
There are audio versions of what happened. There is a real audio, somewhere. Nobody knows if the audio available in the ether is real or a recreation. There are claims both ways. It is pretty horrific.

Can you imagine being the guy who insists on going out there only hoping to engage with "normal bears".

None of those bears are normal there is no hunting, it's a remote National Park. Biggest difference is YNP is more accessible and rangers would of killed it a long time ago.
“horribilis“ the name isn't folk lore
Every bear population has that age class, some just have more respect for humans.

I watched the Documentary Soooo mentioned. The guy was a fanatic no doubt. I don’t think anybody deserves what happened to him. Surprising, no. But saying a guy that loves bears deserves to be eaten by one is a little much. Same sentiment as anti-hunters saying they wish people who hunt bears would be eaten by them.

I love snakes...especially native Texas snakes....and venomous snakes most of all.... I’ve had lots and lots of rattlesnakes and copperheads over the years..... But I didn’t just reach into their enclosure and pet them, feed them, or freehand handle them..... If I was stupid enough to do those things I’d deserve to be bitten.... Your comparison was illogical.....

Perhaps the bears deserved the caution an alpha predator should have? Maybe Treadwell deserved more common sense than he actually used? Maybe Treadwell's ignorant about bears little girlfriend deserved to live longer than she did?

This was no more stupid than swimming with great whites or Irwin playing with large sting rays. Passion and love for an animal do not equate to immunity. This was a forecastable event as seen by the Indians and almost every other rational human being aware of the situation and created a new category for death - suicide by grizzly. Your very last sentence is quite the stretch.

Not asking anyone to be empathetic for the guy, I’m not. The guy was a loon and as I said it was not the least bit surprising what happened to him and his girlfriend. Just saying that very few people on the planet actually deserve to be mauled and eaten by a bear.
@BbarVranch - don’t disagree with any of that, especially the first one. He thought of those bears as his friends. But anyone of them would have eaten him at the drop of a hat if the salmon runs had been poor or like the bear that did get him, had other underlying issues. Wild animals demand respect and he confused adoration with respect.
@Hudbone- I’ll stand by that last sentence. Maybe it’s a little bit of a stretch, but not that much. I feel like people overuse the word “deserve”. I’ve seen plenty of news articles about grizzlies mauling elk hunters in Montana, Wyoming, etc and most of the comments are “they deserved to be killed by grizzlies for trying to kill an elk.” See same sentiment. If you’re going to be in that country you have to be prepared to either 1) protect yourself with up to deadly force or 2) be prepared to be lunch.

Herzog's film is worth watching. So is his one about the death penalty in Texas.

Being in the same area as an apex predator and actually trying to interact with one are at two different levels of intended involvement.

Fitzwho - I think the difference guys are making here is this guy played with fire and got burned. I watched the entire series or whatever years ago, and there is little doubt that this would happen.

Ramsey's right. Common knowledge says you shouldn't run with scissors. He did it anyway. And he cost someone else's life too that was gullible but completely trusting in the wrong person. All I can figure is this guy had a mental disorder.

The worst mistake made was conditioning the bears to humans.
Or any wild animals for that matter. But large predators, especially so.
It won't end well for either the humans or the animals.
