I found what I believe is an antique cast iron toy gun. I have looked at hundreds of images online trying to find any information on it. I have seen nothing similar. Have any of you ever seen one like this?

Attached Files A7767692-6C33-40C2-825F-25AF34050C17.jpegCAFCB150-CF42-4141-9927-F4183B969AFA.jpeg46F2E6CA-B030-496E-9C9E-2775DEDDC543.jpeg

The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

I found it at the base of a mesquite tree I was trimming limbs on. I just happened to see about a 1/4 inch of the handle sticking up, and I started digging, it was only a couple inches under the dirt. I live just east of Del Rio.

Super find, my wife and I are junkers aka collectors. We love the old stuff!

Sure would have never guessed it was a boot jack. I’ve got to clean it and see it it will even open.

You may want to try electrolytic rust removal, using a solution of sodium carbonate and a battery charger. This process (assuming its iron) removes the iron oxide gently and works great on delicate parts. You can google the technique. It may clean up nicely.

I just put it in a pan of apple cider vinegar, gonna let it sit for 6 hours and check it. If that doesn’t work, will look into the method you posted.

Some kid was probably playing with it, using it as a toy gun.... Then got his hide tanned when dad came home from work, and couldn't find his boot jack! grin

It’s clean enough to get it open. Still needs fine tuning.

I'd find out it it's worth any money before doing anything. Sometimes values are negatively affected by cleaning, or so they say on Pawn Stars.
