I electronically submitted a "Form 1" with ATF to make a short barreled rifle on 9/18 of last year. It was finally approved about ten minutes ago. So much for the "average" turn time of 30-60 days for an e-filed application, but nevertheless I'm delighted that it was approved.
For what it's worth, I used an NFA gun trust which I drafted myself and use as a template for clients. Now that the first item has been approved, I can get a suppressor or a couple of other toys added to the trust without resubmitting photos & fingerprints.
Gonna download the tax stamp to my phones and computers, along with having printed copies in home and vehicle. Better safe than sorry.

Just FYI you have to submit photos and finger prints for every stamp not just the first one. You’d think they’d keep them on file, which I’m sure they do, but they make you jump through the same hoops every single time.

I’m waiting on a stamp for a Form 1 eFile from 22 AUG 2020. My 4 previous Form 1’s came back approved in under a month with eFile. I called the NFA Branch and the rep told me they were receiving NFA Applications at an astronomical rate. The COVID lockdowns has many enthusiasts filing on NFA Projects they finally had time to devote too is my guess. The rep told me that most of the NFA Branch has been working from home as well. Expect this as the new normal.

There's a limited exception when the applicant is a trust and the trustees have not changed since the initial application.

The photos have an expiration date, I can’t remember if they are only good for 6 months or a year. The finger prints are in an FBI database I’m sure.

I still have to send finger prints and photos in every time and I have an SBR and 5 suppressors.

Kroyal, I'll be glad to do so when I get to my office. It's in my notes there.

It’s interesting how inconsistent the wait times have been.. A friend of mine efiled in early Nov & only waited 27 days but then other guys are waiting several months.
I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

It’s interesting how inconsistent the wait times have been.. A friend of mine efiled in early Nov & only waited 27 days but then other guys are waiting several months. The inconsistencies come from some items going “pending review.” If the NFA Branch doesn’t have up to date info on an receiver manufacturer et al it takes longer. For example, If the item is an imported receiver and the manufacturer changed brand names. These quirks throw the NFA off and puts them in holding for “validation.” Domestic items or items with a long standing brand name such as a Colt AR15 lower receiver should not have these jam ups. I’m currently waiting on a Swiss made SIG 553 receiver that used to be branded SAN Swiss Arms, now they are called SIG SAUER AG but the NFA didn’t recognized SIG SAUER AG as a manufacture at the time I submitted as the NFA only recognized SAN Swiss Arms which would be fine if the receiver did not read “SIG SAUER AG.” Confused yet? What I did learn with the current process to help the NFA Branch is to submit a photo of your receiver markings to help with their review. My processor emailed me and asked for a .pdf photo of the receiver to verify manufacture name as I submitted it. Last correspondence was that the FBI Background check was still in process. Keep in mind I have a TX LTC and have purchased half a dozen new firearms within the last 3 months alone.

Did not know that. Only reason I've been holding off on SBR'ing my pistol is because of finger prints and photos are a pain. My last suppressor was approved well under 24 months ago. Guess I need to get on it. Does this continue to run? Say I SBR my pistol now. Get the the approval back, does the 24 months start over again? Then just buy another NFA item with in the 24 month period and never have to send in prints and photos again? Nothing on my trust is going to change for a good while until my son gets a bit older.

I honestly don't know, but I doubt it. The ATF would probably take the position that it's 24 months from the initial application only.

I've been researching this and I can't find a single instance of it actually being used. None of my F1s/F4s have this as an option. SiShop said they have to send fingerprints and photos with each one, and the only thing they care about is they photo has been taken within a year. Although it might have been considered by the ATF, I don't think it got implemented.
I'll be happy to be proven wrong though.

Oh good, I didn't even know that was an option on the website. That's one of the fun things about law practice, always new stuff to learn. Just started a new form and found this under the Documents tab. Holy cow, this is going to be super helpful!

Just an FYI I finally got the ATF eForms website to work long enough to finally submit my Form 1 for my new SBR. After submitting I got the email with my cover sheet and instructions to submit 2 finger print cards. After receiving this, I did some more research into the 24 Month Exception it's looking like you still have to submit prints and pictures for every form and for every responsible person on the trust. Which means basically the 24 month exception just allows you not to have to upload your trust again and does little else.
I'm going to call the NFA branch tomorrow to confirm, but doesn't look like the 24 Month Exception does much of anything.
Wish I had done this research prior, just primed some finger print ink and have a few cards sitting in my safe so hopefully I can get them sent out before the 10 business days are up.

Dredging up a thread to find out if anyone else has tried this. Should have been enough time from an application to get an approval/disapproval.

I didn't put my trust name in one box I put my legal name and instead of them contacting me to correct it like they have in the past. They just sent me an email saying it was denied and a refund was on the way. I called them and they said tough luck your passport photos and finger print cards are no longer usable. You'll have to redo the entire process again, pay again, resend all paper work to CLEO. I just decided to leave it braced. Yes it was my mistake, but I've actually had them contact me on my first suppressor because the dealer spelled my trust name wrong and they let me change it and continue the process. I think they're just being [censored] now.
