Been dripping 4 faucets five days and we have a 1500 gallon conventional septic system. Since the ground is saturated, I’m thinking I should pop the clean out lid off and look at tank level.
Thoughts?

Conventional systems have field lines off the tank. Does the level really matter?

You don’t want it filling up and backing up into house. The drain field won’t be doing any evaporating with the ground being saturated.

We have an aerobic system but I’ve also been worried since the power has been out so much and we have been dripping faucets as well. Hoping during the power on times we are pushing enough water.

Those lines are frozen, you can bet on it.

I have a submersible pump, connect a hose a run it down the hill.
However, we’re supposed to be thawed by Saturday.

My aerobic is keeping up to the detriment of my grass and trees. Lots of ice in the aerobic field, but no backups

My aerobic is pushing water out of the big green lid as we have no power and the sprinkler heads are frozen anyways. I’ve had 7 faucets running for almost 5 days. I’m hoping when power comes back on I can pour hot water on the heads, them pop up and the system goes back to normal!
Will an aerobic system back up into the house? I was under the impression they can not.

I feared my aerobic line had frozen, once I dropped some faucets it’s started running and all 3 heads are spraying. Can’t see the heads for the snow, but they are working.
What’s really gross is my neighbors septic has a yellow tint to it and it’s freezing in yellow circles roflmao

Yessr, they can and will. Has happened to me 5 or 6 times in the last 10 years. It's chitty when it happens.

I got a text from a friend with information I had never thought of. She recommended letting the faucets drip into a large measuring cup, pot or pan and then filling up your bath tub, ice chests or water bottles with it. Said it would keep it out of your septic system and give you water for flushing, the dogs and for you to drink if your water get turned off. She said when they get full, toss it out into the yard. Makes sense to me now.

The level in mine looks the same if it is running properly or backed up. I have to open the clean out to see if it is backing up.

Convention system (my current) drain lines should be deep enough to not freeze, and should drain fine w/dripping happening on faucets inside.

Aerobic (had for 12 years before) - It's possible line might freeze if not below grade - most wouldn't but some might that had single digits - ours never did.
We had multiple pop-up sprinkler heads - one or two occasionally froze up, but never all of them - even froze up ones would eventually flow.
- might burn pump motor up running non-stop with a completely frozen line , trying to empty.
Certainly will overflow (hopefully outside) and maybe backup - if no power at all to run pump to empty tank.

It’s been snowing heavily since 9 this morning. I’m not checking my tank level til the snow quits.

That’s a good idea!

Pump in your septic is below frost line. If sprinkler heads aren't popping up don't pour hot water on them. Hot water actually freezes faster than cold water. Ice melt or even some fertilizer over the heads will let them spray. Wood ash as well works to break up ice. Good luck sir!

Checked the level, it’s full. Got a call into the honey wagon, left a message.

For all you guys worrying about your tanks/systems freezing and backing up, here's a cheap little part to give you some piece of mind about your floor drains. Works with conventional sewer drains also, and can prevent expensive and messy repairs. Not intended for regular drains like showers of sinks, but as a backup for the generally dry floor drain.

Power came back on in the middle of the night while I was at work working my [censored] off. Got home after 4 hours of it on and the sprinkler heads has popped thru the ice and sprayed correctly. Septic system seems to be functioning properly after no power for 5 days. What a relief!

This is a new one on me, I have never dripped inside faucets.

I know in my parents house growing up you could take the cap off the cleanout on our lateral system and that would keep it from backing up into the house.

I put my aerobic system pump and compressor on an extension cord to my little Honda eu200i. It kept the level normal.
