Will insurance pay for any of this, or will they dodge it with Force Majeure? I wonder.

I sure most will find a clause in the 79 page contract not to pay.

People in my neighborhood have already filled claims with USAA and received payment for groceries lost while the power has been out. I don’t really get it I mean take the food out and put it in the garage and it will stay cold.

If you have a reputable insurance company they will most likely pay up. Should be no different than damage from a hail storm event.

I lost 2500 lbs of Wagyu beef due to power going out.

When your dealing with water damage their is a lot more bs involved in the fine print, this isn’t roof damage. I’ve been through this crap twice, once it worked out fine and once it took lawyers to get it resolved.

You might want to hire a lawyer for that. I have a cousin named Vinny who just might take the case.

Most all will cover damage from water but maybe not the repairs to the pipes.

My friends had a pipe burst. Doesn’t look fun at all. I feel sure insurance would cover it.

Why wouldn’t they pay for the busted pipes? I more than likely lost 4 expensive palm trees and I expect them to covers those. They damn sure better cover busted pipes, if they bust.

Most all of them will cover it. The important thing is to document everything, photos of as much as you can. Demonstrate all of the safety precautions you took to avoid it happening, and most adjusters are very reasonable. They will have strict guidelines to follow also, so the better prepared you are, the quicker it will be for everyone.

Company I work for has been responding to busted pipes on commercial fire sprinkler systems for the last 4 days or so. Already seen busted pipes in malls, retirement homes, schools, restaurants and we are talking 1 in up to 6 inch pipes with 100 PSI some have pumps and pressures are around 200 PSI. That’s a lot of water in a hurry. Gonna be some huge insurance claims all over the state. Imagine a 6 in pipe bursting on the 5th floor of a building and flooding everything below it.

It’s very common for them not to cover busted pipes, it also matters if the water comes from below or from above. You guys have obviously never had an insurance claim. I sure hope y’all get your problems covered. Ins companies typically don’t cover trees either unless it’s specially put in the policy. They cover removal of dead trees but not the tree itself. I hope I’m wrong for y’all but I’ve been here and done that twice.

Here is a building in downtown Austin who had a Fire sprinkler main bust and flood the building.

Company I use to work for had a 8" main for sprinkle system break. They said the volume would fill an average pool in minutes. Flooded our 450,000 sf warehouse in no time. It was soil related not weather.

Might want to call your insurance company and ask. Not personal experience but have had friends with busted pipes. One had a drain pipe break and caused a foundation problem. They paid for foundation but not pipe repair. Weather related could be different.

I had a slab leak a couple years ago. My pretty standard policy covered the damage the leak caused (flooring, trim, door frames, etc.) the couple thousand to locate the leak, and the $10k or so it took to bust up the slab in the garage and tunnel under the laundry room to access the pipe. Insurance did not cover the $75 for the actual pipe repair, which was just replacing a 6 in length of copper pipe. Under the circumstances, I did not press the issue.

I’m headed to Tyler tomorrow to check the heating on a restaurant and we have had guys running calls the last couple of days and they have been shutting valves off most of the times.

I have seen a Ansul system go off and that was a mess and we shut the restaurant down. I have had a dielectric union break on a water source heat pump system in down town Dallas while I was working on another unit in the loop. That had to have let 300 gallons or more of water loose before we go to the shut off and that was only maybe eight minutes.

I lost the line going to my water heater some time yesterday. About a 1.5 inch split. Opened the door of the house when I got home and water poured out over the door sill. I'm really impressed with the water holding capability of this house. Called my insurance agent, it's covered.

Now the waiting game begins, remediation company said they put me on the list. Maybe next week, maybe March.

We cover the sudden and accidental discharge of water. Here is the grey area. Almost all policies state the insured most maintain heat or have the system drained. I think if you were home and "attempted to keep your house warm in any way" You will be A-OK. Just letting you know how the policies read.

Almost all policies only cover your landscaping for certain perils: fire, vehicle, and couple others. Your palm trees due to freeze will likely not be covered. Always ask if there is coverage dont be shy.

Oh the repairs to the pipes was brought up.

Most water damages: We cover the sudden escape of water. So the water damage is covered.

Wear and tear is excluded so the damaged pipe is not paid for on an average water damage claim.

Freeze is typically a covered peril, and the pipe will be paid on your claim during an event like we are facing.

My understanding is that generally cover everything except rising water. You need a special flood insurance for that.
